Crabs
One day their were stripers everywhere but I could not catch them because the crabs stole my sand eels. I put a cork 4 inched above the hook but that kept on sliding or would fall off. I experimented w/ everything but nothing worked, Do you have any Ideas of how to keep your chunked bait away from those pesky crabs?

Buy the small cylindrical styrofoam floats, they are better than corks, they don't slide off. Are you using live or dead eels. If the eels are dead, try a slow retrieve and outrun those damn crabs.
Bests....

If they are dead, slow retrieve. Crabs should'nt be a problem if the bait is moving. Those things are like candy for stripers.

put the float about 8-10 or so inches away from the bait. total leader length shoul be between 18-24 inches or so. this will help. mike
