Are you fishing more, or less?

As June comes to a close, I find that even with the addition of a boat, I have not been able to fish as much as last year.... Work has been taking way too much time, so we're shutting it down for the week of the 4th
So, how has this year been for you in amount of time fishing compared to last year, or past years? Has it been work, weather, fuel prices, family, or abundance/shortage of fish caught per outting that has affected any change? (I forgot to mention that parenting my 14 yr old twins has added more than their share of challenges, further restricting some opportunities to fish....)

Well....I was fishing alot as the season started off with a bang!!!! Went to Cutty that week and the fishing sucked and I have been home a week and a half and find the fishing has turned very poor! Have been laying low a little.....going to the Cape for 2 weeks so maybe things will pick up there?

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

I fish a lot less now then in years past. Fuel prices have a lot to do with it, but I'm not as motivated as I once was. When I'm on the water I'm just as excited but getting there has been a problem.

I have never fished more then this year, 3 sometimes 4 trips a week. Striper fishing has been the best I have seen. We must have caught 200 + fish 20# or better!

About the same amount of time but it's distributed differently. I've learned that more trips for smaller amounts of time actually disrupt my life (and the other half) less than doing a couple all nighters every week. I'm sure there will be more all nighters if the fishing starts picking up for me but so far that's what I've been doing.

About the same. But the results have been poor. Even waxed the SUV and the wife's cars to make them slip through the air easier to get better gas mileage , plus wife is happier in cleaner, shinier car, which means more leash for me.

I have been trying to go to the Canal and focus on that to a degree, but I am frustrated with the lack of success and feel like a complete moron. I went up to Plum Island last night and fished the riverside. One fish for the efforts from 8:30 to 10:45pm and about $30 gas. Worse than the bugs was the invasion of teenage kids that like to light fires along the stretch of river I was fishing and then come down to talk and wade next to me while fishing.

Can't give up though - before I know it it will be November and I will be kicking myself if I did not make an effort to get out there and improve and at least try and catch some fish.

Less, took a new job, working part time elsewhere. Now back on the job market to get out of the hole I dug myself into so thats gonna eat some time. The few free moments that I have are spent fishing.

I've been 2 times. Went today in fact. Fished 2 rods with pogie chunks. Got some good practice, a small crab, a starfish and some excellent weeds.

tattoobob - maybe you can reinvigorate your fishing mojo by channeling your fishing desire into helping a desperate underperforming angler like myself. Sort of like a 'Big Brother; program for a frustrated fly fisherman turned surfcaster. If you ever want someone to go with - give me a PM. Not trying to learn specific spots, but I could benefit from learning from someone with a bunch more experience.

I don't count the days but it feels like more than last year because of the skiff. As much as I love going out on the skiff, I really love getting in the surf so I'm going to try a pick up on that slack a little.

Overall it's been less, it started out as more, but then totally dropped off ... as things are starting to change on the home front, will probably do my own thing more ... but alas, the little one - I have been spending more time with her so that has been a decent trade off.

But Ross, I am happy to join you during the week of the 4th to help you out with the boat although I was thinking of a commando trip down to Fisher's for that day ... will have to see.

early spring i was spending a ton of time working on landscaping at the new house. got that pretty much squared away and now I'm starting to get into the usual of trying to get out twice during the week and one all nighter on the weekend. fish are starting to cooperate - now we just need some bigger ones to show.

now that I live closer to the water, I'm going more. It used to be just a weekend thing for me, now I am usually able to get out at least once during the week, then a couple of times on weekends.
