First Block Island Trip Ever.

Hello everyone.
I'm thinking about going to Block Island August 13 around 9:00 till 6:00 for a day trip with the family, there going to the beach i'm going fishing.I never fished the island before.First of all is it worth going that time of year and in the daytime. Secondly is there any decent area to fish within walking disctance of the ferry. I will have waders, korkers,surfrod,and just plugs no bait.Could anyone helpout I would greatly appreiacte any pointers you can P.M. me if you want.
