How would you rate June 2007 ?

i did this last year, but it appears many of us are interested in how others are doing generally. If you can respond how you fish (e.g. Boat-good or Surf-good) that might help.

A whole lot of nothing. July had better be better

Boat. The last couple of weeks of May into the first week of June were good. After that things went quiet. Had fun with the Blues anyway.

i understand that the ones catching are tight lipped... and rightly so... but is it just me or are there ALOT of people having a tough year?

sometimes i think about all the effort put in to catch one stinkin blue fish... but then i think... hey dummy! your on the water, stop complaining, your doing something less than 1% of the country can do.

then i feel lucky again.

I'm in the minority, I've been doing well from shore and am still fishing just about every night or 2 hours or so pre-dawn each morning.

Numbers wise June was not may, and I did get a bunch of skunks including on a few all nighters, but I had atleast a few good fish each week.

first week 28#
second week 26#
third week 18# fishing danny's on fathers day with my dad.
4'th week, 26-28#, forgot my boga at my dad's house.
This week, 22-24#,

I seem to be averaging 1-3 fish a night, fishing 2-3 hours a night...

One boat trip in Maine at end of June...fantastic. 3 of us released over 20. (Kept none). Not too big, but lost a couple that spooled us. Really fun.

June sucked, but I caught lots of other things including my first sand shark....so that makes for the lack of Bass. However, I fished the surf early morning July 4th near South Boston. Action was great, 3 fish all well over 30 inches in less than an hour. It was a damn sin how much fish I was catching. Kept one, released the others. So far, July in the harbor looks pretty damn promising.

My June was OK, didn't get skunked a lot, but didn't catch anything really good either. couple of near-skunks of 1 or 2 schoolies for the night.
Jim, give us some tips!

not owning a boat was asked out by a few friends and I'm not one to turn down an invitation, 5/31 caught more fish in a 3.5 - 4 hour period than I think I did last year smallest bass was about 17.5 - 18lbs kept as table fish for mom and dad. That set the boat fishing pace for the month. Wasnt like that all month, but once you found the bait you could pretty much target fish 20lbs or better at will, but you had to work for 'em. Thanks for all the help with the boat stuff guys you know who you are. It wasnt just snag and drop a pogie on their heads, at times it was but more often than not we had to hustle for them.

Shore fishing for the month was a bit slow but I had a steady pick of high teen pound fish to low and mid 20 lb fish. Most of it was doing things I in places I normally wouldnt do, but hey I found the fish, so maybe its stuff I should be doing more often. I ended June on Marthas Vineyard where I was able to find fish every night out, and with the bright moon was fishing pretty much the same way I would fish a bluebird day at noon. Pencil poppers, spooks etc. My buddy ended up taking a nice 28lb fish in bright moonlight on a spook(in the old ccbc wonderbread pattern). The sandeels were the bait fo choice for some fly guys we met while on the island and they average 30-40 fish a night, fly guys measure in inches so they said they had them to 35 inches. We (candi) and I took the girls 7 & 10 out for their first true nights of striper fishing on MV and they managed 6 to 10 fish a piece throwing 1/8th ounce storm shads on light spinning rods with 15lb test fireline and 10lb flouro leaders. Candi managed a keeper fluke using the same setup. Fishing for the small fish with the kids we'd do 30-35 fish a night with a few small keeper sized fish mixed in, and the occasional flounder. Candi dropped a nice one that would have gone 10lbs easy, she was fishing real light using 6lb test flouro line with no leader and a 1/8th ounce storm in bunker pattern. Fishing with the girls was usually about 4-5 hours a night then we would put the girls to bed and my buddy and I would burn the midnight oil. My last day fishing in RI in june was Friday the 22nd into saturday june 23rd and again fishing unconventional locations with conventional methods my buddy managed his personal best, the fish was nice and round taken on a white gibbs 3 hook darter.(the screw eyes held fine) Have been back for about 5 days now and back to work so chances are the 6th will be my first night out for real, have broken out the fly rod and have walked and walked beaches but havent gotten too serious into hunting yet, maybe I'll get serious friday night. Good luck everyone, be safe.

Domination takes full concentration..

All:

we all appreciate the honesty here. Very nice and this way nobody really gives up secrets, just general informaion

For me, I didn't get out much. In fact, probably the least trips in a month in a while. I had a few decent fish up to 25 lbs or so.

Considering work kept me from fishing in June of 06, this last June was not to bad. All surf, no boat.

I'd rather be fishing!
