mako project

well my mako's shifter cable snapped the other day. Also my shifter/throttle controller is pretty beat up, so I am going to completely remove the whole system. I just picked up a classic Morse binacle with 2 levers. One for forward, neutral and reverse and one lever for the throttle.

My ignition with push in choke is going to be mounted on the console and I am going to mount a water proof 3 position on/off/on rocker switch next to the ignition for the tilt.

Classic controls for a classic mako.. I hate those single lever outboard shifters..

How is the hull on your mako? Any water in the foam?

oh, you mean the added ballast? Boy she is a stable boat

yes there is a bit of water in the foam and there is more water on the starboard side, which means she leans about 2 or 5 degree's to starboard. the transom drains are still above water when the boat is empty, but when i get in it, i have to stick plugs in the drains, otherwise water comes in. This winter i plan on tearing out the decks and cutting open the sides to remove the foam from the consol back to the transom. From the console forward is nice and dry.

i will say that she is one of the nicest '71 hulls i have seen in a while. Nice and clean.

I hear you about the added balast. My 93 is a tank but SLOW. Its just something that I'm living with now though. Mine actually has a little more water on the port side but oh well.
