bonito caught already!

Saw in the paper someone got a bone off Menemsha last week.

This must be a scout fish. I haven't seen them schooled up yet but its a sign.

Bonito? Can you catch those from the shore. (I'm north of Cape Cod and have never heard of anyone landing those from the shore)

As far as catching them from shore it is do-able...some years are easier than others. A few years ago it was easy, my kids were catching them like bluefish off the jetties....last year it was really hard and was mainly a boat fishing deal. For some reason catching them from a boat is much different than from shore. From shore you need light line, florocarbon leaders new lures etc or a sweet flyrod set up. From a boat, I have seen guys haul them up with wire line and umbrella rigs. Most guys troll hard deep divers fast along the rips for best results.

I have my doubts that the wharf rats will catch them during the derby this year with the cut in place...one thing is for sure it is going to be impossible to float live bait there for very long in that current and a nightmare to fish a lot of people.
