Salty,

I haven't busted out the flyrod yet... I can't really say why, just have been kinda locked in and not thinking. I'm making a mental note to get it ready this week.

I actually thought about it Saturday when I got a couple that bypassed my popper in favor of one of FW's teasers. And in general, when I've been getting double headers on teaser rigs, the bigger fish have been on the teaser. So, I know they'll hit the fly.

Don't give up on us

My plan to ease into flyfishing revolved around casting to schools of busting fish to gain confidence, but the schools have been fast moving and tough to stay on, so I think maybe that's one reason I haven't gone to it yet.

Actually, we are.

We are definitely moving into summer mode, the salt ponds have shut down for the most part, and the action is on the oceanfront. Lost a good sized fish last night when he rubbed me off on some rocks.

Kenney Abrames of StriperMoon is hosting his "Free Weekly Fishing" session tonight at Narragansett Town Beach.

As if you needed any incentive to get out.

No Slip, that's fryfishing, not flyfishing. You want a tarpon on the fly, don't ya? I see your plan.

Salty, I'm setting a goal to get a fish on the fly this weekend. I promise I'm taking it with me. I even picked out a pattern to tie on (to start).

My fly fishing history so far goes like this: 3 schoolies and one Blue fish. I live on the South Shore and I got my 3 schoolies down in Hull, 2 in the Ware River and one from shore at X, Y, Z streets. The Blue I landed at Carson's Inlet in Ocean City, NJ. I am having a ball Learning this Fly Fishing Thing

Saltydog I've been out there flinging flies around over the summer but I haven't had alot of luck .Seen quite a few in Chatham on the flats but got closed out by the wind or they didn't like my flies or my face . No takers. Finally got 2 in a most unlickely place ,the canal . Last friday night ,before I got stuck on the rocks . I still fade back to bait and jigs but I like catching them on the fly the most. I maybe going to the Merrimack friday with a friend any fly suggestion for up around there , you fish that nieborhood alot don't you. Last weeks fly for me was a clouser type that I made with a offset jig hook with a cone on it. That one is in the canal.

Hey Scortoncreekkid, I was there on Sunday AM and can confirm it was disapointily slow. Have you been able to get down there in the last couple days? Thought maybe with the wind change to the north northeast things might improve.

Nice spot to have a cottage. I am jealous. Not sure what is up this weekend. I am waiting till Friday to see what the weather brings. I would like to get out and do some fly fishing down that way at least once though. I was able to get to the canal this morning for an hour over at the mud flats. I was throwing big conventional not fly though. Got one nice bass on and lost it after a couple minutes while adjusting my drag. Heard rumors of a bunch of albies caught there yesterday afternoon and one was by a guy on the fly rod. Yee hah. Lots of fish in that area right now so if you can't find any action over at the creek you might want to get over to the mud flats at low tide and give it a shot if you can.
