Norman there's a bunch of guys online that specialize in new old stock stuff...I had to hunt out a 386sx board last year for a cnc and built an entire computer brand new out of their stock for $500...386

Put your part into google and I bet you'll find exactly what you want for cheap...

if you are thinking about using an older laptop, id look at xubuntu, it's supposed to be a lighter version for better performance on older machines.

holy man. I could have gotten you a few of those for nothing unless you needed one specific board. I tossed a lot of my stuff about 6 months ago, my slowest (in parts) now is maybe a P3. I had some 286's and every variation of 386 and 486 cpu with a board, mostly Intel but some Amstrad, Via, and AMD. It was pretty cool collection but it was taking up too much space.

What model laptop and what are you trying to revamp.....are you just looking for memory?

Internal CDROM drive for a Presario 2100.

External drives won't load Ubuntu or Windows OSs on these machines and the stock drive is fried.Something to do with usb1.0 and the bios.

machine was built around this MrH, it was a custom pc setup that got fried. They bastardized one leg of 220 to run the computer at 110...cept they marked the machine 220 and it was 208 which is a completely different beast. Smoke, fire, flames, holy crap. Had to rebuild the thing.

Well, when you get it up and running can you take a picture for me. I'm pretty nostalgic over my old Packard Bell 386
