Bustin' loose up here - Striper Talk Striped Bass Fishing, Surfcasting, Boating

I'm not one to just give out 'secret spots', but given that 50-60 boats and a good number of surfcasters were there Sat afternoon and evening, I thought I would let the board know that Devereaux Beach in Marblehead is just hotter than hell. Fish all over, breaking beside me in front of me, behind me! Was in tee shirt and waders tonight and the tail slapping had me drenched! Never seen anything like it. It's been unbelievable since Friday, but am praying it lasts for a bit longer. They're picky, 'cause there is so damn much bait, but small swimmers, like silver windcheaters have been working. Going to reload surfbag tonight and replace ALL trebles. Have had 4 straightened out on me, some were too light, but two were new Yozuri darters, so there are some big PO'd fish up here. Big schools. Only seen the blues come in to clean up after them once. (Isn't it normally the other way around?)

Just wanted to share as I am having a ball up here and would like to see some SB folks join in the fun.

PS Okuma reel did blow up on me, and they sent me the wrong parts

Any suggestions in the 100-150 range, as I am also replacing my Allstar Saltheart this month too

Ross you are lucky. I wish I could get up there. For a reel in that price range I recommend the Mitchell Nautil 6500Gv pro. It is a bout 135 bucks, water and sand proof. If you make the cape leg Mike sells them, but I would call first to make sure he has some left. It comes with 3 spools, and a bag for the reel, and small zippered bag for the spare spools. Try this

because I was catching one after the other Sunday in a similar situation. I boated 50+ stripers on 3 baits, that's one damn efficient bait. Plus with a single 5/0 hook, it makes getting them off the hook and your bait back out quick and easy.

What is that you have wrapped around the hook.. wire?

That's 1/16 diameter lead free rosin core solder, which you can pick up in the tool department at any Home Depot. It's wrapped on a 90 degree Owner cutting point saltwater jig hook I sell, along with the plastic baits of course

. The solder gives you some casting weight, but more importantly a slow spiral fall if you kill your retreive and allow the bait to sink. It won't sike quickly like a stone as would a similar bait rigged on a jig head, more like the real thing. Many guys on the board here can attest to how much stripers love that bait and when they are keyed in on peanuts, nothing short of the real thing can touch this bait.

or e-mail GS directly and he can send you some. That split tail, rigged just like that has caught me Fluke, Bass, and blues so far and those are they only fish I've tried for on them (GS - the fluke really like it, you'll need to do some more testing

Anything that feeds on baitfish will like it, early in the spring I've had 20-24 inch cod nearly rip the rod out of my hands. My list of fish on that bait is quite long; stripers, blues, cod, fluke, tarpon, ladyfish, jacks, spanish mackeral, baracuda, large & smallmouth bass, pickeral, salmon and even a few crappie and sunnies who's eyes were bigger than there stomachs. Sorry Mike, I've been sick as a dog. Started Sunday fishing and had it not been for the great bite, I'd have called it a day early. I can thank my youngest no doubt, as he was down with it all last week. I spent yesterday in bed, but poured some tonight and will definately get your stuff out tomorrow latest. You wanted marker bouy yellow in the half jerks right? How many bags? I'll get to it in the morning for sure.
