PLENTY of parking spaces !

Looks like the novelty has died WAY down at Bass Pro as I've been noticing PLENTY of empty spaces!
Maybe I'll go check it out now!

It's funny, I remember all the talk of BPS opening and impacting the business of local shops....I went up ther the other day and didn't spend a dime....and not because I didn't want to either. I almost bought a color Jumpin Minnow that looked promising just to say I got something there but put it back when I saw the checkout lines. Bottom line, go if you want to look at the stuffed animals and fish and maybe because it is supposed to be 40,000 sq tackle shop, but not because you're trying to find gear that is more relevent to NE saltwater fishing than what is stocked at your local shop.

Went there on Black Friday looking to actually spend some money but couldn't. The saltwater section was nonexistent and the employees I chatted with knew next to nothing about fishing. I'm willing to bet that by springtime the saltwater section will be more extensive though, in all fairness its not really fishing season, and they did seem to have a lot of hunting related gear which should be expected this time of year. A cool experience though, not often you see a forty foot sportfishing boat indoors as part of a display, and more stuffed dead things than you can poke a stick at. I'm still optimistic that they'll get their sh*t together, but I'll still buy a lot of my tackle from Surfland and some of the sponsors here.

I've been there 2 times already. Both times I made purchases of either shooting or hunting gear. I like the store and am glad they are here.

I try to avoid it like I would WalmartHomeDepot

Went there on Black Friday with son #2 on the way home after Thanksgiving. Tried to buy some stuff, until we saw the checkout line. Said f-this don't need it that bad. I'd rather purchase online.

I went there the day after the grand opening. It was pouring rain during rush hour, and there weren't too many people in the store.
Going to Bass Pro is an experience, a good way to kill some time. Nice store, however, I'm curious to see how well they do up here.

Take a ride to Cabela's new store in Hartford. It makes BP look sick. Better assortment also.

I went to BPS on the opening night because I was in the area and had my 2 1/2 year old son with me. I only live about 15 minutes from the store. I figured he'd like the fish tank, etc... He liked that and all the taxidermy stuff, but it was too crowded to move around much and we never really made it through the aisles in the saltwater section. Like others have mentioned, I'll go back for the experience, but still go to the mom & pops for most of my purchases.
Does anyone know if the rumor about them opening a lounge in the store is true? If so, it might make it a little more fun to shop there.

the lounge is not a rumor, it was printed in the grand opening flyer.

I didn't see it in there, although it was a mob scene. I didn't see the flyer, but a guy I work with told me he had heard about it but didn't think the lounge was open yet. Anyone know if it's open now?

Thanks, RIJIMMY. Route 1 is a convenient place for me to meet up with some of my friends. I'll definitley check it out once it's open and report back on it. I would imagine they'll have some fresh local seafood.

the lounge is going to open the week after Christmas according to a visitng manager. He said there were some licensing hiccups but were resolved or were in the process of being resolved.. BTW- I lke the place, my daughter loves the place, and it gives me a place to go when the wife wants to shop that area.

Went last night with a few friends and browsed. An overwhelming experience since the store is so friggin big but fun.

Only money spent was down the street at the Endzone Sports Pub on a couple frosties. Staff last night stated that the Bluefin Lounge won't open until mid Jan now.

Went to Cabelas Sat. Nice place to see once or twice a year. Sounds like they will be seasonal for the saltwater fishing crowd. Asked about the new Sluggo's and was told in the spring. BP next stop..........some day when I'm bored.

I also went to Cabelas this past weekend. The mountain in the middle with the mounts is simply awesome. The 2 tuna in the back are just amazing. The aquarium is so so. Great hunting section. I went and left my wallet in the car because the last Cabelas (pennsylvania) I went to raped me. You cant get hurt wuth 40- in the pocket to spend; no more.

Of the 2 they both have their positives and negatives. BPS is great because it is close by but the saltwater section sucks IMHO. Best part is my daughter loves to go and climb on the boats and watch the fish swim.
