Sunday Night Bluefin
This Sunday on 60 Minutes they are doing a piece on "The King of Tuna"-all about the highly prized Bluefin tuna and how they are being captured in rising numbers by modern methods that threaten to endanger the species, driven by this incredibly prized sushi fish.
Doom and Gloom, but could be interesting.

Maybe BFT conservation will be the new hip thing. I see it more and more through different media outlets.

Thanks for the heads up . Hopfully it gets the ball rolling on reducing the numbers harvested commercially.

Until the Europeans and Japan buy into conservation and ICCAT get their head out of their ass, it will be a mute point. There is no real enforcement of the rules. The BFT issue is much bigger than just the tuna themselves. Overharvestig their forage base, technology that is superior, a ridiculous quota for everyone, etc. The whole issue is a mess. Bleak situation. The worst thing you can do to a fishery is make it a valuale commodity. If left to man's devices , it will lead to the end for that fish if there isnt strict checks and balances in place and strong enforcement with in the fishery.

Sounds interesting.
The problem is that 60 Minutes is so alarmist that they've lost all credibility when they try to bring attention to a situation that really is dire. According to them, every story they've run in the last 30 years is worthy of every person in the country working to fix immediatly.
