Braided line color loss
Me mostly a boat fisherman and where this would come into effect from a boat , I know some braids loose there color but not their strength . How much of the main line would you color with a magic marker non dullable to keep it mostly invisable to the connection between main line and leader i think it might be 4' meaning how much can the fish see in the strike zone?

If you're running a 4' leader, I wouldn't lose any sleep over the color bleaching out of your braid.

The magic marker will come out a heck of a lot quicker than the original color. Personally I don't think it rreally matters. Especially with a long leader.

Look at all the colors that line comes in. I don't think any of it matters.

i use tuf line in green, loses some color for about 20 feet but makes no difference, using with fluro leaders.reading about the different colors like red after 15 feet is invisable.i fish strickly surf so alot of the water i cast into aren't 15 feet on the retreive.i have used fire before and have heard the magic marker thing but never did it,still caught with no problem.

When I used Fireline it always went silver in one season, I just striped the line and put it back on in reverse, Now all new line again, after second season just throw away.
Spiderwire Stealth hold the color good and I have never worried about it.
But as has been said I don't think it matters if you are useing a long enough leader.

For a few years, I just tied direct with Fireline, no leader. No problems with new line or faded line, as far as getting fish to strike. Leader is convenient for preventing cutoffs and for hauling large fish to shore without slicing fingers.

If you are using a braid , you need a good length of mono or Flouro to add a shock absorber into the system. A few feet will do but more is better. My leaders usually start out about 8 feet and get nibbled down to about 4 then replaced.

Tying direct might not cost you a fish, but it might cost you a little blood if you have to grab the line to land a fish
I like heavy mono and a big enough barrel swivel to give me something soild to aim for if I need to grab the line
