Mahogany...
Got some to try out. The stuff spins and sands the nuts, smells like chit though....any thing I should look out about with it? How's the stuff seal? I usually use val-oil for sealing.
tried some SS Wads with it this afternoon....came out smooth as a baby's butt.

I sealed my twice with straight Helmsman Urethane. Sucks it right up. Filled the grain mostly too. Then I sanded it level with 320 tacked and cleared or primed if I was going to paint. I liked using mahogany very much.

Heard the dust is bad news... But I could say that about everything.

Nice. I agree with BBJ on the Helmsman Urathane. That will make the wood's color pop too.

These ones are getting primed and painted.......don't worry, this isn't from the chunk you gave me....Found a place that carries mahogany Ballisters for $3 a pop.

I started turning mahog a few years ago when I fell into a stock pile that has produced over 300 plugs with another 500+ to go. I love the stuff for swimmin plugs, and for heavy pencils and Bottles. If you pay attention to the turning radiuses you need no added weight for action. I seek out and scarfe every scrap piece I can get my hands on. It is easy to turn, sand and seal. takes paint like nothing else.

I use it on my sinking needles, darters and hand carved bunker.... great to work with, does cause minor blunting of the tools...
I've never had any split with a BLO seaing...
