Large plugs are Gary Soldati's specialty at BigWater Lures.

Not sure if a link is allowed here, but you can search for it easily.

3-1/2 oz Gibbs pencils are about 9".

Salty's Sheriff is about 10" or so.

Creek Chub jointed Giant Pikies, maybe a foot long.

For big swimmers, the re-released Creek Chub Pikies are a good plug that is well priced. For topwater the Heddon magnum and super magnum spooks are nice and inexpensive as well. Salty makes some great big-water plugs, the lipless fathead is real nice at 3 oz. and the sheriff is a huge, nasty topwater pencil popper that fishes great, same with the fathead popper, and I've got high hopes for his new 3.5 oz. needles! Big plugs catch big fish! (and quickly tire aging back/shoulder muscles!)

Sometimes. The Canal Specials cast better, as do Hawgs/Guppies, but the 3-1/2 oz have their place. They're floaters and they work a little differently in the water.

Another recommendation for Gary Soldati at Big Water Lures. Great pikies, great guy to deal with.

His plugs go from big to huge and the ones I have all swim well. You can order directly from his site if you like what you see.
