New touch screen electronics

Has anyone seen these or tried these. They look cool.

I use a Panasonic Toughbook Laptop at work, it has a touchscreen. IMO they always need to be cleaned, scratch easily, and are hard to see with just a few fingerprints on them. Even the supplied stylus, and replaceable film on the screen and they still scratch.

Matt, We also have a touch screen unit at my work and I love it in that environment. Fast and easy to use.

I think for a fisherman, we would destroy it pretty quickly. I saw the me Garmin units at the Boston Boat Show and the rep I spoke with conceded that these are ideal for a guy with is family in a SeaRay going to Nantucket, but for someone who is fishing on deck and running the boat, maybe not so ideal. They sure look slick as hell.

I was truly impressed with the new Furuno NavNet 8 and 12 inch plotters. Not the 3D part so much, but the screen was crisp, the controls are easy to read and manipulate, I think that they are a heck of a unit.

Agreed they will get messed up pretty fast the way we use them.

Just wait a couple more years and the voice activated system will be ready......

I looked at the touch screens as well and decided to go with buttons, I couldn't justify the additional price.

I also agree with The Specailist. I have a touch screen GPS in the car and I am constantly having to clean the screen.

Good advice guys. Im going to stick with my trusty button Furuno.

Those touch screens are slick as hell though.
