Your advice greatly appeciated.

I hate (yes hate) orvis shops - so stuffy, staffed by numpties and over priced. but blimey the Vortex looks a blinding reel. Please tell me why I should not buy this reel! It looks an abel contender at 2/3 the price.

It is not a bad reel. Orvis has very good customer service. If you find that it doesn't work out, you can trade it in/return it/get satisfaction. I would probably save up for the Abel.

New Vortex is a decent reel, the old one is a classic.

Best saltwater fly reel Orvis ever sold.
