Lathe Tune up???
I have a Rikon 71-100. It has met my needs up to the present time. Spindle turning, Plugs, bowls etc. I turned a bowl slightly heavier than usual, and now It appears that my headstock spins slightly out of alignment. Any suggestions?(I know, don't turn any bowls...)I was wondering if accessing the head stock could be done?? After removing the pullies, it appears that the "guts" of the head stock are held in with lock washers. I have looked at new Rikon's and the spindle lock on my lathe (6mo old) did not appear to hold as tightly as "newer lathes." The addiction has set in- with the lathe on the fritz- I might develop separation anxiety!
Thanks

When you say "spins slightly out of alignment," do you mean it's not aligned with the tail stock, or it is running out or not turning round?

Lathe wobble
Charleston, It's more of a wobble. When spinning there has been an increase in vibration through out a rather heavy bench that wasn't a previious problem when the lathe was turned on.The headstock will turn yet it is not a smooth spinning action (It is not an alignment problem between the headstock and the tail stock) In reading some of the archived threads could it be a bearing?? In which case how much of a deal would it be to fix??

A wobble. The spindle is running out! (out of round). Depending on how the spidle is designed it almost has to be a bearing.
Did the lathe come with an assembly drawing and parts list?

Thanks for the replies upfront....No diorama was included with packaging. Could access Parts and configuration last month @ Rikon site but cannot access at present, wouldn't you know? Is it difficult to replace bearings? Calling Rikon would likely be next step?

If you can get the bearing out easily, look for a number on it. It can be matched up.

A bearing shop like Machine Parts in Providence can find you a bearing based on ID, OD, and Width and type of seals.
Good luck!!

Bronze bushings , which is what my lathe has, or ball bearings. Each are different.
