Warranty/Brake Question?

My wifes car is an 06' Nissan. 20,000 miles on it and still under warranty. Brakes are squeaking so we bring it in to have it looked at (mind you its under warranty) and we are told it needs new pads? Not covered under the warranty?? Cost is $230.00??? First question......I know it could go to wear and tear but new pads at 20,000 miles???? Come on!!! My truck has 50,000 miles on it....same brakes!!! Don't you think that given the number of miles on the car this should be covered under the warranty????

Also......they did not have the pads for her car in stock, claimed they "called around" looking for some but nobody had them so they had to order them??!! Now we have to blow another friggin day dropping her car off......again!!! I am willing to bet that if I call 1 other Nissan dealership, that they will have the pads in stock???

230 for pads is way to high

especially since it's not covered under the warranty

you shouldn't be having it done there

also there is a huge difference in the quality
of brake pads and for an 06 the origionals had
to be a lower quality brake pad...

i know because i was delivering them and rotors (brake parts) for awhile
and at the parts store the good ones were in a separate area than the cheapos...

So Unless Angie drives around like a wild woman with her foot constantly on the brakes because she's driving way to fast
than the origional brake pads were cheapos quality to begin with.

i'd get on the phone and call around BF and compare .

20K and pads are worn already? Something isn't right. I do a lot more stop and go driving into Boston and just replaced mine at 56K
No way they should be worn at 20K. And a set of pads should be @ $25 retail.

all dealerships charge extra. if it's not covered go some where else for less money and I want to know what nissan dealership is. My altima is still under warranty and needs front brakes.

It's the same everywhere and if they treat you right it's only for a short amount of time.Find some one else and FYI stay away from the guy bruce something down by the hanover mall. used to be located in the building walmart is in, then in the mobil in front of the mall. complete criminal with hack artists for employees.

Just called 2 other local dealerships and they have them in stock.....fronts are about 75.00 and rears are about 65.00.

What the dealership told my wife was that there was "something" on the pads and that if she wanted to get rid of the sqeaking sound she needed to replace the pads,,,,her cost!!!!!! Sounds to me like they are looking to remedy the situation and still make a buck!

True..Buy if they are pulsating when stopping the rotors may need to be resurfaced..

Their parts dept. tells me they are in fact out of both pads......still don't the dealerships generally get them from another dealer if they have a need??? Or no???

Lastly.....should I insist that they replace the pads under the warranty as the squeak is not our problem??? Especially if there are still miles left on the pads????

jeepers creepers none of you guys ever heard of glazed pads? That's what makes them squeak. Not the cars fault that they got overheated and glazed? The glazing is what is "on" the pads. Replace the pads. Tell her to not ride the brakes, take her foot off the brake pedal and let the pad release from the rotor after you stop even if it's a 1/8 turn of the tire.. It causes excess heat to build up in the pads and they glaze. Once it's been glazed it will never ever stop squeaking because you can't get the stuff off. The 2001 Quigley had a huge problem with glazed front pads. I'd sometimes replace them after 5000 miles. Solution was to go to ultra cheapy pads. Get rid of the ceramic/semi metallic stuff as that will cause glazing more often than not. If they can do a front brake job properly for $75 I'd be looking for someplace else to take it to because it's too cheap and they're not doing something... Last brake job on my SUV was $700.

Salty is 100% correct......they are glazed!!! Won't do any good to tell her not to ride the brakes!
