They are erecting a gate just past the fish pier and will lock it 24/7 after next week un til spring. The tried this last year and the town rep in Sandwich helped to get a meeting about it and got it back open but that was after it had been locked a long time.

I guess we will have to figure out a way to drive down the access road along the canal

Last year the State police said they wanted it open, so I guess they should be contacted about this.

Hey Bob Thomas, any pull here?

Steve: What Slip says is correct. They're at it AGAIN.

To contact the agency in control of this fiasco:

Mass Division of Environmental Management
e-mail address: Mass.Parks@State.MA.US

It never ends! We'll have to mobilize the retirees in Sandwich who raised hell about this same issue just last year and got the decision overturned. It WAS the State Police who put a stop to the closing last year - stating that it was their area of control because it was a state road and must be patroled.

I'm sure all hell will break lose when the Cape Cod Times writes about this - you know, hearings, meetings, etc.

I'll keep you informed.

Is there an official reason for this? Other than excluding people from using a public resource?

Holler on any help you think you'll need and what we collectively can do...

Thanks,

John

John: Last year the agency told a State rep that it was security after 9/11. Yeah right !

Oh, ah , maybe not....... It's the budget.

Oh, ah, maybe not..........It's the kids/vandals

Oh, ah, maybe not.......... it's the "staff".

Let's face it. They close the gate ( to all us taxpayers who actually pay the damn bills) ) because they're not collecting the camping fees during the winter. They're running the place as if it's a business. It's A PARK! Get it..... A PARK !

BTW, I'll be filing a FOIA request on the MDEM to get the notes on the meeting(s) re this issue. Should be interesting reading.

I bet the non official reason is because they are too lazy to keep it open to the Mass residents it is meant for that want to drive down there.
Who in their right mind wants to walk to Scussett beach in the winter when you could drive and park, get it PARK ?

I went to the meeting last year and this crap they are pulling is a real low blow. We asked about it too, but didn't get an answer.

Where is Ruth Provost now?
