Kids Get The Blues Too!

I am on the Cape with Angie and my boys and their friend Kevin for 2 weeks! First couple days we discovered blues blitzing small pods of bunker right in front of our house! It was amazing and the boys were having a great time beaching a bunch of bluefish and admiring the pods of bunker which were up and down the beach in ankle deep water! Thought I would post a few pics! Angie and I got a few but we were busy taking pics and I spent most of the time unhooking fish for the kids! We had a blast watching the boys! These were 8-10 pound choppers!

Here are a few pics of the bunker!

The first pic is of my boys friend Kevin and his first bluefish....think he is pumped?! This kid did everything I taught him and did a fantastic job! They slammed blues to 10 pounds and a bit more until after dark! Second picture is of my son Nathan with a 10 pounder he weighed in for the MSBA Fishing Derby! He was quite pleased!

Great pics, Larry. I hope you were throwing beater plugs at them and not letting them bite your plugs.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day ...
show him where to fish and ... you'll be sorry

Larry:

I dont know where you guys are staying, but every Sept/Oct for the last several years there have been large schools of bunker in Ryder's Cove when we shoot though there to fish South Beach and Monomoy.

Great pics!!

Can't wait for August 9th!!!!

It's experiences like that with the family that you (and more-so the kids) will be talking about for years to come. Plus, with the fishing being so good, the kids are more apt to get the fever that you have Larry. I'll be doing the same on MV over the next two weeks with my kids and nephews (don't know if I'll have the bait and blues in front of me like you have though).
I wonder, do you cry a little (on the inside) every time a blue steals one of your customs like I do? Awesome times for you and family. The kid Kevin will thank you some day I bet. I remember being invited along on vacation with a friends family when I was young. I look fondly on those times.

Larry - awesome pics. that's what it's all about man - fishing bunker/pogies getting hammered by the blues. The blues get ultra reckless and it doesn't get any better than that for the kids.

One thing to consider ... if you find schools of bunker getting slammed by the blues, don't forget there are likely to be bass shadowing the activity picking up scraps. Try throwing a half a bunker (head half) out on the bottom behind the school, or a whole dead bunker and let it sit on the bottom.

We caught tons of good sized stripers that way ... target the bigger schools though.

have a great time, i think you are near where we used to go.

Andy.....no bass under this action! This is in water 2 inches to 3 feet deep! Did get one small dink bass off the fringe of the action that took a "Blitz Seeker"!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!
