Plug Rigging *** Question***

Got a few Super Srike Darters that came with VMSs attached by split rings. As the crappy hooks the SS come with are cut/direct, that has been my method switching to VMCs. Should I be attaching split rings when re-rigging my SS darters as well as SS Needles and the various SS bottles? If so, what size split rings?

As for Beachmaster, its safe to say that most guys hook direct with no split ring, right? What size trebles do you use and how do you rig the tails? IM curious as to the whole BM linup.

As always, I thank you for your answers. Without fine fishermen such as yourselves, what would I do.'

Greatfull,

TBD

personally, I don't put split rings on my ss, I suppose you could but my cast is fine, the hook folds, and my hookup is still great, as for the bm, I only have 1 thats going for sale so I really can't help you.

I use split rings on all my plugs. There was a good discussion here about a year ago on rigging SS darters and the different configurations used.

As Toby says. When I fished plugs (which I don't anymore) I always had split rings on the belly and tail hook. By putting a split ring the bass doesn't have the opportunity to get leverage on the hook.

By the way, for all you plug ho's, I have over 700 plugs that will go up for sale soon. I'm gonna do lots of 5 and 10. Some of the real old plugs which are one of a kind will go alone.

Between bunker spoons, live bunker and eels, I just don't throw plugs anymore. 40 years of throwing wood and plastic is enough.

No boat, back in the suds.

Yep. Everything gets a split ring for me these days. Siwash tail hooks are the only things not to get rings.

Nebe, not a sage at all. Just want to tip the odds in my favor now. I have fished for a long time and spent plenty of nights with the "skunk" as my companion. Plugs catch fishermen. Live pogies and eels catch Bass.

as much as i like using cut hooks they seam to start rusting quickly .once that hook is cut it loses strength, Ive noticed on my white BM Danny it starts to get rust stains on the plug it self and the white flag on the tail. all that said i still cut them.if you cant fresh water rinse your cut hook plugs wright away the hooks have to be changed every year (imo).once the hook is cut even fresh water will rust it so if you lay it in a tray it gets messy.
