I caught a 50lb Ulua (Giant Trevally) when I was on my honeymoon last summer in Maui. My wife and I booked a charter with a great captain in Molokai. His name is Clay Ching and has the Hawaii record for ulua. I think it was 123bs. I hooked one that almost dumped my VS 250. I got it boat side and lost the fish (crushed barbs). He told me it was around 50lbs. I thought it was a 100 haha. They are the coolest fish to fish for, very pissed off fish. Here are some pics of his record fish.

Bingo!

Say the magic word and the duck comes down with $100. (Sorry, obscure reference for old folks)

Salty, so where is your friend getting Varivas? I thought it was unavailable in the US for the last several years
