Take Advantage of Election Season to state your concerns

Yesterday the current RI state Senator (Teresa Paiva-Weed) from my district was going door to door looking for support. She asked me if I had any issues I was concerned about. I almost sent her on her way but then I remembered the ROW issue. I informed her that as surf fishermen we are losing parking privileges to our rights-of-way to the water. I told her about the current Daunis ROW issue in Barrington and explained that ROWs without parking are almost meaningless. I mentioned that Rhode Island residents need a law to include parking areas near all designated ROWs. She had no idea that local communities were restricting parking access to STATE Rights of Way. She was very interested, wrote it down and said she would assign some of her staff to research the issue and to keep in touch with her office. So, during this election season make it a point to let your politicians (local, state or federal) know how you feel about issues, take full advantage of them being at your door step for a face to face meeting! Voice your concerns - it can't hurt.

D - I met Theresa Paiva-Weed at a fundraiser for Kate Leonard a week ago - I'm working with Kate on her re-election and will back you up.

Kate as you know has a personal interest in both ROW's and stripers - she - and you and the NCSWFC - were the driving forces behind the Newport Fishing Passes, for those who don't know.

I'll give Kate a shout about it so she can speak with Theresa

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.

I have a cousin who is a CT state rep. You'd be suprised how they respond to constituant problems. The lesson is that if there is an issue, they'll respond.
