Plug Building Article in The Fisherman

Anyone read it in this weeks issue? I don't do much building, but found the charts on wood density, plug diagrams, etc... pretty cool. The article could have probably contained much more information, as it was very limited.

My question about the article is this. What is the pin method for attaching hooks? There is a diagram and a brief mention of it, but it seems a little strange to me. I'm just curious about it, as I through-wire the handful of plugs I make each year. Thanks in advance for any answers.

The way I read it was that you take a piece of metal rod and insert it, width wise, in the plug so that it catches the swivel.

Some plugs such as the Cuttyhunk Popper have swivels that are not through wired so then you must drill a small hole for the swivel in the front, belly and rear. Here is a thread showing this.
