Ok, let me start by saying I was never a huge fan of this place, so personally I won't miss it, but it is familiar to anyone who has fished the Outer Cape for any significant amount of time.

My problem is this: We get a full page newspaper article every time a seal gets saved or a plover gets run over. Then, when you see a directly related story that shows the cost of protecting these animals in the way the laws force us to, there is no mention of the effect that beach closures probably had on the revenues of this restaurant. I would say that closures had to have cost this place revenues in the tens of thousands of dollars over the last couple of years. Maybe more. But it seems that no one other than fishermen and a handful of business owners can connect the dots here.

Ok, I'm done...just frustrating to me.

Yeah it sucks, I can remember before he and his sister bought it and the area behind the restaurant was where everyone left there 4-wheel drives and campers for the winter. Now it's condos.

The bird situation didn't help, especially the year before last (2007 season) and his personal spending habits contributed to deep sixing him as well.

P-town's rep as being a gay mecca keeps a lot of folks away too, nothing against them but sometimes thier overt antics turn some people off from going there.

As an example, if you ever came off of the beach from fishing at 1 in the morning on a Friday night in July and are travelling down Bradford Street the overflow crowd of leather bound gay guys lined up waiting to get in Club Purgatory ( What a nightmare it would be to breakdown in front of that place then) tells you what type of "successful" business now dominates in that town.

My wife and I still love the place though but for different reasons.

Without a doubt the closures had an impact upon their business, although I don't think it was a straw that broke their back.

One or two soft seasons, like this economy is bringing to us, can destroy a seasonal business in a nano-second.Add on to that maybe some wrong business decisions, or over-extending, and you are done. Sad news for the owners and workers none the less.

A couple of folks with very good experience/success on the Outer Cape in this type of business are trying to purchase the whole thing, but the price and the banks views on credit are making it difficult - hopefully for all it will become a reality.

When I saw Clem's house up in foreclosure a month or so ago I wondered what the heck was up. Times are changeing way too fast for this old Capey. I hate to see the old crowd fade away like this.

for me it is a good thing,now i won't be getting a thick shake float so often.now if i can only avoid Connies

I really enjoyed Clem and Ursies and am sad its gone. While expensive, it really was unique in its range of food and a great place to take the kids.

Too bad.

Try the TIPS n Topsn's restaurant on Bradford Street. The Portugese Sweet bread french toast are awesome. All the fish mounts along the walls are way cool too.

Flap, sounds like you and I are cut from the same cloth.

I'm a Tips guy as well, usually there not long after the doors open in the AM when I'm coming off the beach.

Also, I'm known to knock a few of those vanilla frosting/coconut sprinkle cupcakes from Connie's, too!

I love Tips,great family place with a good meal for the buck,breakfast or dinner. I would be negligent if I didn't mention the pesto calamari at the Lobster Pot as something I look forward to each summer. The second floor of the Pot is nirvana,great bar,great view.

Another vote for Tips . Parking there sucks though. Even more of an adventure backing out .

I would grab a late nite nap now and then up behind there when old man Costa owned the fish market. We would go up on the hill with all the old junk boats have a beer or two, grill a few tips. Called it the room with a view. . . . BY the way for breakfast ( great homemade corned beef hash) in eastham, try the fairway, my arteries love the king size donuts.

The Fairway has a great breakfast but lunch there is lacking, cannot understand why.

Across form the Fairway is the best pizza on the planet, the Red Barn!!!!!!!!!

Agree, the Red Barn makes an excellent pie. Probably the best north of the rotary. They don't have it on the menu, but they'll still make a "Toby's Idea" (fresh baby spinach, artichoke hearts, bacon....).

Sweet Escape in Truro makes a pretty good pizza too. The guy that used to run the pizza place next to Sweet Escape is long gone and Dianne and Billy at the SE have taken over and done a great job.

Expansion is usually done based upon previous year's numbers, so if you expanded in 2006 or 2007 with the expectation that you could meet or exceed those numbers, and it does not happen, and revenues fall along with the economy - that's a problem. Growth is not always a good thing.
