Thanks Bigfish Larry!
Went out Sunday afternoon to a spot with a southwest wind blowing right in our faces. I watched for a few minutes as there were about 7,other guys fishing the same stretch of water and everyone was struggling to get small fish.
I looked out and saw fish breaking way beyond the other guys' casting range and decided to clip on a Bigfish pencil popper in silver back, pinkish orange sides and white belly.
Second cast, I pick up my first keeper of 2009, a respectable 36" fattie. For about 10 minutes, people stopped and watched me as I was having fish explode on every cast. I ended up with a few more from 25 to 32" and then I took a 39" bass that took me down to where I could see the mono backing on my reel. I've never seen the kind of vicious strikes that the bass were putting on that plug!
I know the fish look short in the pic, but keep in mind that I'm 6'4" and my son is 44" tall.

I wonder what your son is thinking standing next to a fish only a few inches shorter than him.

I almost exclusively fish topwater plugs during daylight and love working pencil poppers. That plug of yours casts a mile and had great action at the furthest point point of the cast. I barely had to do anything.

He loved it. I only keep a couple of fish a season and they come home filleted, so he doesn't see them whole. Now he really wants to get out fishing with me.
