Exclamation Free Fishing Trips for Veterans

For the second year in a row, Nelsons Bait and Tackle in Provincetown is sponsoring Free Fishing Trips for Combat Veterans and their families. Last year 20 charter and recreational boats took out over 65 veterans, along with 100 of their kids/spouses for a day of fishing. Thanks to generous donations, we also provided everyone with a great lunch on the Pier.

This years event is on Sunday, June 7th, and we have 21 boats and are looking for more because we are about 90% full at this time! We are also accepting any donations, checks made out to Free Fishing Trips for Veterans, and mailed to Rich Wood, PO Box 1175, Truro, MA 02666.

Merged from other thread...

Last year Rich & a bunch of volunteers put on a great service of thanks for veterans and families of veterans that have done combat tours in AFG and Iraq, this year, he and the crew are expanding out a bit. And above all, they need more hulls , more boats and skippers to take more veterans and families fishing.

Here is some more info, please shout out if you can help, lets also figure out some ideas on how S-B can help:

Quote:
We are again offering free fishing trips for combat veterans this year up in Provincetown Harbor, on Sunday June 7th. Last year we had 20 boats and over 60 veterans and their spouses/kids participated (total people over 170). We are also looking for more people to step forward with their boats and offer a free trip or two that day, or help the cause in any way they can. Thanks for your help.

Thanks Steve - we have over 50 Vets, along with their spouses/kids signed up and all the boats are FULL!!

We NEED more boat volunteers, as we have a waiting list. We have boats coming from the Boston area to do this, so anyone on the Cape or close to it are capable of giving a day up for the Vets.

This whole event is both recreational boaters as well as commercial charter guys, so anyone is welcome.

I'll be participating this year. Should I be lucky enough to win the $100 I'd like it to go to either this year's or next year's veterans event. Let's get some other boats signed up too!

In last years event the boats caught most of the fish around the Pamet, although this it's looking like the fish will be around Wood End and the Race in abundance by the time June 7 rolls around.

Note that June 7 is a Sunday. You looking for a place on Saturday?

Striperman - Pamet has a brand new, side by side, concrete ramp, smooth all the way and no "drop-off. Only issue is dead low tide, but depending on boat size you can work around that.

On the hotels, I am calling the Provincetown Inn at the end of Rt 6 to see if they are giving us a big discount again this year - it's really a motel, but right on the bay with plenty of parking for rigs.

Also, I can get you a free slip for the night at the marina - launch at Pamet the day before, run the 5 miles to the marina, trailer at the hotel.

Give me a call and I can fill you in some more - 508 487 0034, or cell 860 716 0202

Pamet Harbor

Pamet is much improved as Rich said. On June 7 the low is at 6:03a (.1) which is about the time I'll need to be launching to get underway and be at MacMillan wharf by 6:45 or so. I only draw about 12 inches with motor tilted up so I'll be okay. But if your boat is much larger than 21 feet it might be a problem on the dead low.

Right now no one is trailering up from the other side of the canal. We do have about 6 boats launching at Pamet, but most llive within 15 miles of the Harbor.I do have a 24 ft Rampage crossing the Bay to get here.
