Internet down?

I read on SOL that a lot of servers went down last night and today everything I load is crawling, plus several sights I can't get on. One I know is hosted by the same server that hosts my webpage and it's down as well, you luck out John?

Virus Overwhelms Global Internet Systems
By TED BRIDIS
AP Technology Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Traffic on the Internet slowed dramatically for hours early Saturday, the effects of a fast-spreading, virus-like infection that overwhelmed the world's digital pipelines and broadly interfered with Web browsing and delivery of e-mail.

Sites monitoring the health of the Internet reported significant slowdowns globally. Experts said the electronic attack bore remarkable similarities to the "Code Red" virus during the summer of 2001 which also ground online traffic to a halt.

"It's not debilitating," said Howard Schmidt, President Bush's No. 2 cyber-security adviser. "Everybody seems to be getting it under control." Schmidt said the FBI's National Infrastructure Protection Center and private experts at the CERT Coordination Center were monitoring the attack and offering technical advice to computer administrators on how to protect against it.

Most home users did not need to take any protective measures.

The virus-like attack, which began about 12:30 a.m. EST, sought out vulnerable computers on the Internet to infect using a known flaw in popular database software from Microsoft Corp., called "SQL Server 2000." But the attacking software code was scanning for victim computers so randomly and so aggressively - sending out thousands of probes each second - that it saturated many Internet data pipelines.

Sounds like a well sought out plan w/ a couple of comic book reading nerdy collage kids with no life

i got all my 2003 software in, ZoneAlarm Pro, avg, etc etc- them AOL offers are worth it.

John, what do you have for a Comp? (i would think you have more then one)

who do you have for an ISP? would of thought you had cable and just used IE ??

i'm AOL user i know AOL is for "idiot" internet users- but i like the features of 8.0 alot...alot of "bugs" tho.

i plan to get my DSL modem up again and use IE for my browsing, much faster...AOL has the pretty little tool-bar and special offers that take time to load up,

anyways, back on topic:
Do i need to worry about this, i open Emails from SB and the RISAA forum, that's about it...my zonealarm email alert is so advanced it lets me know before i open a mail... but they can sometimes get passed that...........

I was online around 12pm and i didn't notice nothing- AOL does a good job of sheilding it's users...

was this a "madeone" mad to do just what it did or a major electonic error? (which i doubt) i can't see how people get joy out of slowing down the net-, "oh, what a rush"

i've done my share of minor but bad stuff,(will not discuss) but that's old now

fill me in.

Bunch of PCs ... For security reasons I don't talk much about what I have & run but it's pretty easy to figure out. Though I do have a couple tricks in the mix.

It was an Interent Worm - you can read all about it at CNN
