Angry Put on your walkin' shoes......

Thinking of fishing at the Race? It is now only accesible by foot. See ya in a month or so.

Why even try.........

Bob, fish RI, BI, Montauk. I stopped the Cape thing in 2003. Too much of a hassle with the Feds, the birds, the seals, the mung, the lack of quality fishing and the traffic.

No boat, back in the suds.

I would but the wife likes to take her vacation in Turro, I pretty much have no say, and if it keeps her happy

We used to go to Block Island for a week at the end of June but I was told I left her alone to much and she won't go back with me.

I kinda messed up a couple of years back, by never being home and taking to much time out of work, I lost 2 jobs and almost my wife, I have to tread lightly now. I guess I had the Striper fever

Good, now the real fishermen will be in the congo line and less crowded, I hope the seals get the message too. I might just have to take a ride out there someday.

I always rejoiced when things got shut down as the walking never bothered me much. Most nights you'd be all alone up there, which was a good problem to have. Same thing on the back, as long as there was a small strip to launch my boat from it was business as usual.
If things work as they have in the past with regard to fishing from shore, the race will usually peter out within the next 7-10 days anyways. The boaters will still do ok though.

the 45 minute walk is a good way to start the day. Only 3 hardy souls this AM, plenty of elbow room. They'll open the accesses soon enough.

Funny as much as I am a little arthritic, some motrin and a bit of a walk without taking all the plugs I have just what generally works. Helps out the kinks and you don't have to worry about the mob of googans , just have to scare away a few mo's.
By my gps my avg nite of fishing is about 3 miles or so.

When I lived and fished on Long Island, I always liked going to the spots that required a bit of a walk to access. It reduced the aggravation factor about ten-fold

I got the oversand pass for the week of 7/11. Any chance by then? I don't mind the walk; it's a tougher sell for the other half.

Lots of times with the truck you drive right by pods of fish becuase you have a predetermined place you're heading to. When you're on foot it can be advantageous as you comb every inch of the beach as you make your way along.
One time on the back there was a good pick of fish going and it fizzled out. A conga line of trucks exited the beach as if they were being led by the pied piper...anyways I had walked in quite a distance from the HOTM parking lot up to high head and I ran into a school of monsters on the way back without another soul in sight.
Having the trucks out there is very efficient no doubt, but the guys willing to walk will pull the better numbers many nights.

Man I used to like that stretch of beach, dove on it close to shore, all big cobble for a thousand yards, 30 to 50 yards off the beach, choked with crabs. Most of its filled in but still have had my moments. I do plenty of walking now.

May fortune favor the foolish....

I feel great after walking along the beaches. It is not any worse than the walk out to squibby. The problem is that the walk back after sun up gets very hot (not this year though ).

so i was thinking about driving out to welfleet, or p-town tomorrow morning to be there before sunrise...

ive never driven out there (for fishing) after June or before Sept.

are the beaches accessible? do you have to pay? ill be planning on being out of there before 8am

i really dont care about how the fish have been biting, im more going just to get some me time and to fish somewhere other than the canal.

You should convince her to do a trip out to Montauk. Plenty to do during the day and plenty of fishing at night.
