WOUNDED BLUE FISH

I took the boat in the river the other night to see if there was any bait hanging around. We see something spinning around on the surface. It was about a 30 inch blue fish. We pulled it into the boat to check it out and see what the problem was. It had a light ring around it's head right behind its gills going right around. Something had this fish in it's mouth. There were no teeth marks, blood or holes in it's lips. A seal, tuna or monster blue would have done some damage. Would a huge bass try eating a blue this size. The wound looked like an eel does after a bass hits it. I'm scratching my head. What do you guys think?
