Dragonflies

Anyone else noticing huge swarms of dragonflies? I saw three swarms tonite on my walk. Each one was easily 40-50 of them. One swarm was in someone's front yard, the others were in the air over the road

I noticed them last evening, along with the swallows, feeding on mosquitoes. Haven't seen any bats yet.

There's some virus going around that is killing off the bats in the northeast.....

The more dragonflies mean there must be more for them to eat, meaning skeeters.
Fortuantely, they are only dangerous to insects that are smaller than they are.
At most of the ponds I've fished, the dragonflies are plentiful, and will feed all day long, and when night comes, they are replaced by the bats. Throw in the the daytime bird feeding on bugs, and you've got one heck of a 1-2-3 punch against the skeeters.
I love the color and size variations you encounter with the dragonflies.
It may be linked to the amount of food the get as nymphs/larvae.
