should have done it sooner

I feel weird doing it now - I have been watching this board religiously for months now, and never said hi. Now I see all the new members saying hi.

I have only been introduced to Stripers for about 3 seasons. the first season, brought fishing with a friend using loaner tackle, on the North Shore.

Second season, picked up cheapo rods, but decent reels, fish Plum Island exclusively, only catch 2 fish the whole friggin summer.

3rd season - go fishing with Jules, we catch 9 and get complete addicted, buy new rods, girlfriend now luvs fishing. Start fishing south shore. And joined the MSBA at the annual show at Liberty Tree Mall.

I still have limited luck on my own, but with advice here, things can only get better.

Thumbs up get some binoculars

welcome iwannakeeper...you've just graduated from the lurkers.
One of my best tools is simply a pair of binoculars and i watch for circling and diving terns indicating actively feeding fish just below sending bits and pieces to the surface that they quickly take advantage of. Perhaps you've only fished daylight hours til now but there is something mysterious about casting into the total darkness and fighting a fish at night not being able to see. You might want to try changing tactics from chunking to plugging and back again until you find that winning combination. There's a reason why some of the members get addicted to plug making and have 25 - 100 plugs to choose from. Soft plastics are for weedy conditions and chunkin's great when they're only feeding off the bottom. Keep going and never give up experimenting!!!

Now that your an MSBA member, try and make the meetings.
(maybe you have already)
Great bunch of people. Fish talk is time to listen carefully.
Always have great speakers who share their knowledge and tactics. I'm there at almost every one.

Plus a great charity tournament coming the end of June, sign up, help some kids and its a great excuse to fish for 3 days straight!!!!

IWK - it will come in time. Even if this site and guides like BC/FW do a tremendous help, they can only shorten the learning curve. But you did the right thing. Going with a good shore guide early helps steer you in the right dirtection and gives you experience that you might otherwise learn on your own but it would take a lot longer...

The learning curve still requires your lines be wet - so does catching those keepers

Van,

I know it sounds like an excuse, but work has made me miss the last 2 (since I became a member).

I am going to be at the next one - June 25th right? - I packed my last Spray in a box somewhere.

IWK,
No need to explain, we all have commitments.

When you do come let us know, there are quite a few MSBA members on this board, come and say hello....

IWK,
Sounds good, know her well, and she is usually in attendance at meetings.

See you then...I might be working the table for charity tournament registrations.

Haven't been to M&Ds yet. But I got some shopping to do, and it sounds like the place to be.

Buying a house this weekend, but maybe sneaking out on Sunday.

Welcome on board, there is a wealth of information both on this site and in the heads of some of the old timers, so read and ask away.
