Scorton Creek - the last resort for light tackle and flyrodders

Certainly looks like it but you can't see the northern jetty in the picture. There is a smaller one that you cannot make out in that picture that most people fish from when the tide is higher but you really don't want to try to get to at high tide. At high tide, especially with a moon high, you'll have water in the passenger's seat if not carefull. The water gets VERY HIGH!!! A fellow dies there last year or the year before because the tide came in so fast, one fellow fell in nd his buddy tried to save him. The buddy died. On the other hand, the tide goes very low there and you can wade far beyond the northern jetty. But there are a couple big drop offs, like more than 6 foot, that you need to be real carefull of.... But yes, that is one famous schoolie holdover spot when it doesn't freeze out all of the fish :P

There is no northern jetty at the mouth of Scorton Creek. You may be confusing Scorton with Old Sandwich Harbor (formerly Sandwich Creek).
Most of the holdovers are caught further upstream.

I believe I am at the right place. Let me correct myself. There is a very small jetty, mayber 30 feet long, on the canal side that is fishable when a couple hours down. After the tide contiues out. that little jetty is high and dry and you work way out to the jettiless mouth...We are talking the same spot, right??

The estuary that had the two recent unfortunate drownings was Old Sandwich Creek.

I don't fish Scorton very often, but to the best of my knowledge there has been no Canal side jetty for at least 3 or 4 years. I thought there used to be one on the North side quite a few years ago. The mouth of the creek is constantly changing.
Last year the bar on the north side curved around in front of the creek opening. This sent the main flow far to the south.
This area gets pounded by winter storms. Just down the beach at Spring Hill there was a jetty that I fished off of many times. I can remember taking my son there when he was very young. He found a can of paint in the jetty rocks and got it all over himself! This jetty is now gone. The victim of a winter storm.

So perhaps the old north side Scorton jetty is either buried in sand or has fallen victim to a storm.

Same Place, there is a tiny jetty about 30' long that'll be completely out of the water about half-tide. And yes the bar had really moved over farther than you would think. Then it gets deep fast....
For those that want to see an amazing site and heppen to be in the area of Scorton Creek. For several years now in May and early June, you will often find stripers "Tailing" about a couple hours into the dropping tide when occuring around sunrise. Tailing is when the back of the fish, from around the dorsal back, is sticking almost vertical in the water, almost straight up as they are feeding face down. Awesome sight to see. They can be difficult to catch at theese times but the white pearl Queen Cocachoe has worked great then as I would guess the pearl white zoom fluke....

SLIPNOT, been fishing the creek for a great number of years, 4-5 times a week, only sand bar on the right side, if your talking old sandwich then you will be right on
