BMW - Oracle Tean wins back America's Cup

Cool new for Sailing / History fans:

US boat wins back America's Cup
By BERNIE WILSON (AP) – 51 minutes ago
VALENCIA, Spain — Larry Ellison's space-age trimaran BMW Oracle has won back the America's Cup for the United States by speeding across the Mediterranean to rout two-time defending champion Alinghi of Switzerland for a two-race sweep.
The 65-year-old software tycoon was onboard his incredibly fast craft Sunday.
Alinghi raised a red protest flag on its giant catamaran late on the first leg of the triangle course, but then dropped it after the race....

It was close for the first leg only then the tri-hull blew away the competiton. Can't believe they get those boats moving 30K in 8K winds.

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

There's already speculation as to where the Cup will be held. Even some rumor on it coming back to Newport, RI.

Would love to see it come back to Newport and would really love more classic rules and back to monohull. But the Cup is Back, for now.

that would be big for our tourism. I hope he likes the tradition of holding it in Newport. They have it every 3 years?

I can clearly remember the Aussie Captain saying on the dock that down 3-1 "it looks like we're in the death seat now.", and then days later hearing on the radio, " DENNIS CONOR HAS FAILED TO COVER!" Unbelievable...., I grew up with the Cup being defended here in Newport every 4 years or so,and then it was gone...poof! We still had a helluva party anyways even though one of the stereo speakers fell out the 2nd floor window on Thames St and hit some chick on the head.
I don't know how the town would handle the hype and crowds that would come with it now. It might have to be a state/bay event to accomodate everything now.The waterfront is all hotels these days.

Watched The Aussies Steal it

Will never forget watching the Aussies take it away the first time. Came home from high school to watch history live on TV. Sad day for the USA.

I'd love to see it come back to Newport and return to monohulls.

One design would be cool- all boats 100% identical, instead of it being a contest to spend the most $ on the best boat, crew, sails etc..

This series was the result of an concession by Anlingi to Oracle BMW.

I think the cup is going to SFO or SDO depending on Larry's whim

My parents live on Bullocks Cove and we used to love watching the old 12's coming and going into Cove Haven Marina for repairs/upgrades.
