Fall Plans
Yes it is here, last day of August. The Fall Run starts NOW.
The pace of the fish now increases in tune with the anticipation of the angler. Bittersweet in how opportunity swells as a season draws to close in just a few months, even less for many.
Much tradition over the next couple months to realize; The Derby, MS Tourney, annual trips with the friends, and family. Some newer events such as the Hab’s Tourney, Striper Cup for some.
Even greater is the chance to fish with friends old and new, and to bring a new generation into the fold.
I’m really looking forward to the next couple months even though there is that element of closure, an end of the season lurking out there on the periphery of time.
So what’s up for the Fall?

I will be fishing up at Plum Island most of the time, with a few trips to Cape Cods Outer beaches, then to end my season a trip to Block Island first week of November with DZ and Tagger

In the boat, I really want to catch an albie. Also some october tatoug. Will try for bass but do not have high hopes, lame year for me and stripers.
I'll also hit the canal a few times when the weather is rough.

Way different year for me this fall run. I have baby #3 on the way for the last week of September. So I will have to cease and desist in the next week or two. I may be able to hop out on the other side a few times. But more important matters than catching a fish are ahead!

Being the contrarian that I AM... I'm not a big believer in the fall run... I've seen too many fizzle or be a total bust, too often we are plauged with unfishable seas, fish that migrate out to sea, and winter comes just too fast..yes there are fish to be had but nothing like the summer and spring.. the only bonus is the solotude, on those nights when I can fish, i am alone, and often the fishing is good, but at PI, the consistant fishing is over by the second week of October, yes there will be Spurts ( I've taken cow bass the week of thanksgiving) but fishing 9 hours freezing my *&^ off for two or three fish is just not fun... not after 5 months of it, I long ago gave up the chase south, I've caught enough big bass to carry me through for another season.. so for me, the September full moon will be key... with a little luck, I can work the beach fronts and rock piles without being set up high and dry or getting dashed to death on the rocks....IT'S NOW PLUGGING TIME... I'll use plugs almost exclusivly( unless the fishing is poor) for the rest of the season...

Albies and Bones
Maybe some time over at the Island. My Derby trips never seem to be able to follow through. The work and kid thing shifts back into full focus of any time available.

Albies from shore
doing my daily fall cruise where I get out work, swing by the house throw the rod on the car and just do laps around the drive and beaches looking for birds.
Really try to put some house stuff aside and put some serious time in. Thats been my problem all season. Havent had the chance to really put some SERIOUS fishing in. been alot of couple hours here and there this season.

wife's going back to work next week so I'll be home alot with the baby at night (she's a nurse and works nights). not much fishing for me this fall. we're going to cut her hours back to 2-12s per week, but not in time for fall. I'll sneak out here and there though. there's always next year, plus it looks like the fall could be a wash out anyway with tropical storms.

This is when I go back in the surf. I live for the Fall at the Canal. Had a great year 2 years ago. Fair last year so I'll be back especially when it's nasty and cold in October.

I've been making plugs pretty heavily for the last two weeks and haven't really fished much.
I've probably fished half the nights I typically do as there's simply too many more important things for me to tend to. Many nights I get up and go back to sleep whereas in the past I'd get up at midnight and get out there for a few hours.
As for fall fishing, you can take it or leave it as there's many trips lost due to weather and the like. I've had some epic falls in my life and also some real duds (like last year) so I don't get too fired up either way. Will try to make one more trip to cutty, then concentrate on the canal after mid september.

i only fished rhodie a handful of times this year, a lot less than last, so there's going to be my focus for the fall run, of course the ditch will call my name plenty of times this month and next and i will have no self control to say no. NO KIDS, GF's hopefully pre-occupied at college, cuz im prepoccupied here already...... thats for another thread, and my job hopefully ends after my vacation on the 28th to go to Wales for the Ryder Cup practice rounds and First Round with my parents coming back on the 8th of oct. pfeww this is looking to be f'ing fantastic couple months

Really looking foward to DJ's class sat. Then taking all that knowledge to help me meet my 2 remaining season goals and get out of some bad habits. Hopefully a few more nights on block. Other than that just keep putting some serious time in and fish smarter

Hurricanes aside...Sept is the best month weather wise here without question. Warm, cool evenings, good fishing, everything is open and there are fewer people around to get in my way. (good by mr. obama and support crew) I plan my normal inshore derby fishing with a mix of boat and shore. Looks doubtful for any more trips south. (storms are putting the kibosh on that for the next couple weeks), but if a window opens and the fish are active I will see if I can schmooze a trip. I would really like to go east with my boat in mid-late Oct and dance with big giant for a few hours.
Then of course is my annual Tautog trips! great way to wind up the fishing year...I really look forward to a couple of big white chins.

I will be hoping for a nice fall run at the canal. Released alot of big fish early in hopes they would pack it on over the summer. Would like to try surf casting, hook up with people in the know but need to buy some stuff waders etc... No complaints about this year so far, hopefully the fall continues a good season of meeting and fishing with some great people from S-B.

I am hoping George buys a new motor so I can go out with him in early Nov., my favorite trip of the year. what a brown nose I am. Hope to go to the Vineyard with Peter for a few days in Oct. and several boat trips along the beach in CC Bay looking for a big one at nite and early morn. Still waiting for the albie call and of course hitting the canal and sandy neck from the beach. Putting boat away earlier this year to fish from shore and not freeze my arse off winterizing it.

Just want to fish as much as possible with some good friends... those are the best nights... My season goals have all been met and exceeded (surprisingly!) so from here on in, the pressure is off... just want to enjoy my time out and take it all in

How's it going man? Keep in mind a fall run won't happen on time if its a friggin million degrees for a week. Not many people know what 20lb blues look like but I'll be looking for them in a couple of weeks up here with some live togs. How were the tourists/skukes this year? Sad that I didn't take a ride with the family for some cakes. The kid is 16 months and a true ass kicker.

Somehow, I seem to have 4 weeks of vacation and personal time that I need to use between now and Thanksgiving . Hopefully, the albies stay around on the beaches longer than a week this year . That and a better mix of bait this year so the fall makes up for a sub-par year so far .
