Purty cool Nebester

i remember my vw BUG engine removal tooL i made out of the bottom of a shopping cart with a piece of plywood on it... i kept it with me always... Sure enough , headin cross country i loose piston NO. 1 Black oil cloud like that comes out of a locomotive burnin coal

so i approach this great Tennesse gas station and ask if he has any old VW parts layin around i could buy...

well, if he wasn't the nicest GUY of all ...he says sure have at it
thinkin this aught to be interestin, as nothin else was happenin

you can use my two boys here too just givem orders so they can learn sumthin...

well i whip that engine out and it flies apart because i have every engine tool with me.... i pull off the head and VOILA sure as shootin it was number one ,,,, i thought it was #3 but nope

so in a matter of hours i had the sucka all rebuilt and reinstalled and we took off for cali the next mornin Heh heh cost me less than a hundred bucks ...more like 65 bucks LOL

4 minutes thats Radical

Well four minutes is impressive, but that thing was prepped to disassemble in that amount of time. There was hardly anything holding it together.

#1 Is usually the 1st to go as its the one that gets the least about of cooling air.. Thats why they developed the doghouse oil cooler..a small oil cooler that mounted right in the blast of cooling air inside the fan housing. Now adays, what we do is mound a thermocouple sensor that is a washer on the #1 spark plug that gives you a head temp reading up at the dashboard.. But the ultimate VW upgrade.. something that i would love to do to my 71 westfalia is to replace the engine with a subarooo wrx or even svx (6 cylinder) water cooled engine.. you mount the radiator underneath the bus...

Yeah Nebe, i had several bugs and a VW VAN TOO

I'll never forget getting Busted for sleeping in a NAVY BASE
Parking LOT (by the Mp's) with my finance when we were between homes
(not a great Idea)

but after makin sure we were COOL
they just let us GO...and don't come BACK ! yes sir


But i had one of them external oil coolers
the radiator type.... worked awesome
