Still digging my Mako. - Striper Talk Striped Bass Fishing, Surfcasting, Boating

There was some Mako hating on here last year when I said that I had purchased a used 2007 1901 Mako inshore. (with a 115 Merc 2 stroke).I ran it all last summer on Lake Champlain here in Vermont and loved it. My teen son towed around his buds on various water sport things and I used it about once a week for fishing. Really good to me. Up on plane fast and did low 30's mph. Just sayin. Stayed on a mooring all summer, didn't seem to hurt it.

I had an older one a few years ago (a 1992 201 model) and it was build like a tank. It was back when they were privatly owned and I've heard great things about the older ones (minus transom rot issues). I liked my Mako a lot but wanted something a little more suited for offshore and stepped up to a 21' Contender. Enjoy the Mako.

Ive got a 22 ft 1973 mako that i redid and put a pilot house on..things the balls.

all that matters is that you enjoy it.
For 3 years my boat was in a marina with some of the most gorgeous fishing vessels I have seen. I never saw them out, not on the weekends, not during the week. I was amazed. They could have used them from say 3pm to 7pm and I would have misssed it but I doubt it. All that matters is that it works for you

I've definetly read that the older Makos are built really well. They're beautiful boats also. But I'm good with mine. Feels very solid, handles well in the chop. I do have to go slow when it's rough because, as an inshore, it has low sides. I really like how I can get it into like 15 inches of water to fish or get through the sandbar tunnel.(engine up almost out of the water) And I love how my 18 yr old son can't wait for us to get it back on the water. Me too!

I'm with you on this. I like my 2006 Mako 192 w/ 4 stroke Suzuki and T-top just fine. I like that it is new, dry, and reliable. Very stable and wide boat, build quality is pretty darn good, especially to an old boat where screws are backing out, fiberglass is cracked, tank is corroded, wiring is fried.

80 gallon tank gives the boat amazing range, great casting platform, the deck isn't mustard color either. They get a bad wrap, but hardly worse than any other "new" boat out there, short of Regulators, Edgewaters, etc. 230 hours on mine in 3 years and the ONLY issue I've had was a loose screw on the ground bar which was actually installers fault when I first bought the boat. Even that took a year to work free.

Double Haul....sounds like your boat is working out perfectly. And from the name "Double Haul" I'm guessing you do some fly fishing for Stripers off the deck. Fly fishing for them is maybe my favorite way of catching them.

It is actually, it is "Double Hall" because my name is Hall. There IS another Double Haul and Double Hawl that I've seen on the water.

So much for my clever and unique name. Haha.

Yes, I started getting into SW fly fishing 2 seasons ago after only doing freshwater when younger.

I had a 92, model 240. It was a fantastic boat. Fished everywhere from Narragansett Bay to P-Town to the acid barge. Could handle any sea condition. Built like a Mac Truck. Saw the pale imposters that are selling at BassPro. What a dam shame. A disgraceful way to ruin what once was a top of the line craft.

i got the 184, 3 yrs ago and I'm quite happy with it. Your right they're not what they were 20 yrs ago, but what is? Only 1 problem with the 115 Opti so far and that was with the fuel-water seperator, my fault, forgot to change it and it started s#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g air.
