Striper Set-up 0_o

I am going oout for the weekend finally, and I set up my rod, but it looks like a good length of metal... I mean it is those things that you use to connect line or weights with (I dont know the name, sorry =p)
So I have them, then I got a Styrofoam bobber, 2-3 ounces of weights, and a decent hook. It looks like a mess though =[ Could I get help?

My phones busted so I cannot post an image.

I may be young, but I remember that day... Nice blue September day... Hell breaks loose killing 343 of my brothers... 343 baby, 343...

We could all help you out but we would need a little more Intel. If you could post a pic that would make it easier

TrialZ - we're going to retool this thread and have you clarify a few things.

First: How old are you?

Second: You're dealing with adults (mostly ) so stop acting all g@M3r pUnK and spreak engrish with us. The quality of your response is usually directly related to the quality of your question.

Third: Please restate in a way an grumpy old bassfisher can understand.

I'm guessing we're talking a metal bait fishing rig, right?

I speak fluent teenager and the question still does not make much sense.

Hopefully for him we can have a clarification so someone can help.

Im 16, straight edge, and havent been fishing for a while. Fire School is more important. I have better terms to remember than this.

Just give me a good surf set up....

Nine ft Abu Garcia Bruiser is my rod, but the rigging seems like scrap metal.

I'm not familiar with that rod, but a 9' should be fine as long as it has the backbone to throw the bait and weight out to where the fishes are. Your best bet for tackle would be to go into a local tackle shop and ask them what the recommend for the type of fishing you are planning on doing. Spend a couple bucks and they will usually be very helpful. It probably would be a good idea to bring your rod and reel in so they know which direction to steer you. Hope this helps a bit and post pics when you land some fish.

What are you using for Bait? That would help people answer some questions about how to rig up your line for you.

Not so sure you can smoke it, needs a more direct route into the bloodstream.

Here's what I would suggest:

Have your dad drive you to a nearby tackle shop tomorrow, and ask the guy behind to counter to show you how to set your gear up.

Have dad spend about $10 in there for the guy's time.

If the "rigging" you are talking about are the rings on the rod, and they look like scrap metal, the rod is probably not usable and will cut the line. Fixing it requires re-wrapping with new guides, although you might be able to scrape by by cleaning the corrosion off the inside surfaces of each ring with emery paper.

Are you fishing with clams for bait on a wire leader bait rig with a float to keep the crabs away? If a striper is hungry enough, they may bite that, but those wire leaders are for bluefish so they don't cut you off.

take Mike's advice and ask at a shop, the local places should be able to set you straight.

good luck

Google fish finder rig or Hi/low rig and that will tell you what you need to fish bait. practice tying your knots that is the most important part of your rig. hope this helps

Trialz - can be a tough crowd, but we need more and better info to help you. As was nailed in the thread, help by a local shop is a great way to find works in that neck of the woods.

Otherwise more info. Not sure if you are going coastal or not but it still is pretty early for that gig.
