Latest bright idea from Washington
So idiot is toying with the idea of charging a user tax on vehicles using highways and byways. Although the article mentioned that it could replace the current federal gas tax, we all know that if given any chance, they will include it along with the gas tax!
Whoever brought this proposal up should be beaten with a mace.
Our local illustrious leader, Deval Patrick had suggested this in 2009 in addition to our existing taqxes and tolls, and it was soundly defeated.
I can't see how a national plan can be any better or any more successful in passing.
If they were, in the infinite possibilities of the universe, ever able to pass such a tax, it would kill so many recreational and travel businesses because people wouldn't be able to afford the "travel tax" to get to that destination.
I mean, we pay a sales tax, an income tax, state tax, city and town taxes, excise tax, registration fees, luxury taxes (when we can afford luxuries), inheritence taxes, death taxes. I thought that SOME of these taxes were specifically earmarked for infrastructure repair and maintenance? Apparently when they create a "rainy-day fund" and call it the "state coffers" it really means "We do what we please with your tax money, and we're not responsible or accountable if we blow it on booze, hookers, vacations, personal luxuries and just wasteful spending and there's nothing you can do to stop us from continuing to do so with every penny of YOUR money!"
