never in a million years did i think i would catch these ,up here
i went out today at 7:30 this morning, later than i would like but bad tides for the ramp .i went in search of the elusive pogies (for me this year) hit all the spots i ever got pogies and tried 2 new spots on 5th hand word , nothing , now off to get macks . i hit the spot where i have been getting plenty of macks the last few day but i lost most of the moving water looking for pogies , mack fishing was slow only 1 or 2 at a time with long stretches inbetween . (i jig for macks trolling style) . i hook up ,not a lot of wieght so i'm thinking another single fish next thing i know the line is pulled real tight , drag is set tight for bait ,the fish can't pull drag , then starts shooting out to the side and around the boat , i have gotten a lot of macks in my time never seen this before , now i'm thinking small bluefish , i get it boat side and at a quick glance it looks like a mack , i get it in the boat and get a good look at it and it,s a small albie , i had never seen a real one before only pictures ,snapped a quick photo and tossed it back (real sharp teeth),it was only as big as an adult mack not even a pound i would guess then a little while later i got another one only a little smaller , now i change set ups and i am targeting albies , which i know nothing about except what i read so i put on the smallest deadly #^^^^& i have and started trolling , if anybody told me i would be targeting albies within site of boston i would have said they were crazy but there i was . but saddly i got no more .weather was turning so gave up on that and went striper fishing , could not fish long though weather got nasty only got one decent striper , strange day , the count 7 mackrel , 3 harbor pollic , 2 false albacores , 1 dogfish , 1 striper . and i got pulled over by the evo police for speeding even though i was just trying to match the ferry

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

So that is what they are. Over the last few trips have gotten a 2 or 3 (10") of them in the mix. Less brilliant stripes and different mouth and eyes.....and a bit more pep then the macks. I tought maybe that is what it was but was going to ask but you beat me to it.

possible mistaken id on the albie ,could it be small b.f.t. ? started checking photos of albies , not a match , not bonito , not spanish mackrel , closest match is a blue fin tuna ? 6 vertical stripes , pointymouth , sharp teeth , large dorsal fin , i have a cell phone photo but do not have the equiptment nor the brains to load photo , as i have never seen either in person i am confused but the stripes were more green than blue . if i can make the m.s.b.a. meeting i will try to show photo around or if time permits try to get to a verizon store to print out photo .

Would be cool to know what it is. Some juvenile fish look quite a bit different than the mature version.
Do you know how to send pics from your phone? You could send it to an email addy, then post here.

There ya go,,been the strangest year EVER in boston harbor.
Makes me think, over the weekend I was loading with macks and a couple in the bunch had different markings.
But everything else was identical to our common mackerel.
I have no idea why it had that pattern. the stripes were broken I would say it was more spotted than striped.
I didnt check for teeth.
They still worked great for striper bait !!!!!

While loading up with macs yesterday (Saturday).
I pulled in a stringer of those little guys.
Another first for me too.
I thought about using them as live bait, but I released them.
Water temp in outer harbor is lower 60s and its almost mid october.
Must be why.
Bass fishing was awesome and lots of blues around too.
