A while back there were a lot of questions on the new century blanks.I had a load of requests so i went on line and talked with builders in their home country and several others that raved about the flexability and durability of these rods.Building custom rods can be difficult when it comes to options for big rods with shipping being around 100 for an 11 ft rod. The furell on the Century blanks seems to be a good one so I've done some home work on them.
This is the 10ft6in. I built it to fit reels like the Sustain 8000 an 10000. Also the Diawa Emblems as these are becoming a staple reel for many. The rod I put together is for braid from 20 lb to 50 lb. it's rated 1 oz to 3 oz. I pushed that envelope to 1/2 oz to 4 oz in fishing it. The sweet spot seems to be 2 oz to 2 1/2 oz. It handles a 4 oz peice of metal fine.I got a best of approx 150 yrds with 40lb braid with the metal and beyond 80 to over 100 yrds regularly with plugs that had tied tail hooks and those without. During my vineyard trip of a month and 10 days in Rhody it became my go to rod replacing my Arras both the 1322 and 1321.With long hrs casting plugs and eels at times i found the rod to be both comfortable and had a wide range of uses.
My specs are as follows. reel seat is a wrap on Fuji over cork tape covered with x-wrap heat shrink.Reel seat is 24 an 1/2 to middle of shank.I used Fuji K frames with SIC rings.I tried several different set ups and found the most flexability in use, distance and reel flexabilities in the following set up.30-25-20-16-12-10-10-10. I tried going 30-20-12-10-10-10-8-8 but found it to cost me distance and flexability in lure size.I found this when I tried a couple Penns-6500-5600 and tried some mono at 17 lb test.Remember I'm working on a flexable build to make it work for people that don't spend 300+ on reels. The VS 200 and 250 both worked best with the ist guide set up. My spacing ended up as -from tip to butt-62-50.75-40.5-31.25-23-15.75-9.5-4.25 along with the fuji size 10MNST tube 7 that fits the rod. just be carefull as some of the tips take a 7.5.
I beet this rod hard trying to make it fail but it never did. I found it easier to fish than the 11 ftr. Yup got one of these coming on that too.It fishes sweet and is one that won't beat you to death throwing plugs. Needles, spooks, swimmers, metal and eels. Nice rod to use. Tight lines Ron
