Sportfish Restoration / Excise tax why it's important

This is a VERY well written independent analysis of the sportfishing excise tax...what it is, it's history, why it's important....and most importantly where it all goes in your state....

VERY good reading and recommended to all. I found this report to be completely unbiased, well thought out, and written. It's current to March of this year.

I opened this up and almost passed out!

Good GOD! This is EXACTLY what is wrong with our government!!! I bet they government paid 250K of the money taken it to write this report. It takes a report like this over 60 pages of in-depth analysis to say what they are doing with taxes. Just give me an executive summary, one page.

I am sure it is good and accurate, I have no doubt, but there is no way I will read this...then again, if I can sleep and the wife is not in the mood, maybe I will open it back up!

"This publication was funded by the Multistate Conservation Grant Program, a program supported with funds from the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and jointly managed with the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies"

enough said...money that did not go to support wildlife.

I agree with Sandman, anyting this wordy stinks of BS. Page 32 is where this doc discusses Striped bass management. I don't buy it. It looks to be well written, but the paragraph below bugs me, I still feel the decision making is a shot in the dark, and coordination/cooperation with east coast states on management isn't happening.

In short, the Sport Fish Restoration excise-tax funds provide the backbone for management and science activities that are needed to establish sustainable fishing effort and monitor results. Without the funding, decision making would be little more than a shot in the dark.

Jim I encourage you to read it. It's very eye opening and in depth.

I read it end to end. Like I said I found it unbiased.

Fishsmith read more. They go into detail why this is said. Makes 100% sense when you read the whole thing.

I would think that people like Basic Patrick, RISAA, MSBA would see this as a tremendous tool in the fights for access, conservation, sb gamefish status, etc etc.

Am I reading this right?

The excise tax money generated for SPORT fish restoration is funding fishery management, which in turn prioritizes commercial utilization?

That seems wrong.
