Question Who's looking for a new/used vehicle?

I know this doesn't belong on the Main page, but I felt it was better served here.

If anyone else is in the market for a new/used vehicle. KLMulder is the person to talk to. He works at Toyota of Newport. He is a board member here and has helped me considerably. He will go out of his way to get you the best deal possible. There are some great vehicles on his lot right now. NO, I don't work there...nor do I get any sort of commission, I just wanted to give credit, where credit was due.

Thanks again, Mr. Mulder

PM him for more information.

I'm eventually going to need a new set of wheels.

My blue 1994 GMC JIMMY 4x4 SLT is getting a lotta miles on it from my trips to the cape.

It always concerns me buying a used vehicle from the guy on the corner. I always feel like I'm getting someone else's lemon. Personally, I feel that going with a dealership...there is more than just a car on the line. I've had to chase down "corner-lot" dealers before, as I'm sure many others have...and it can be very aggravating. Even for something as simple as the Airconditioning not working properly. It almost seems as if they toy with you until the warranty is over. Then they never want to see you again. Not to mention that most of the cars @Newport of Toyota are Toyota certified. K.L. can explain this in detail. I know it's a very intense testing procedure the car goes thru in order to receive this status.

Anywhooo...thanks again Mr.Mulder...for following up and all.

Wholesale cars are also a great avenue!...

If you were to purchase a vehicle for wholesale, you're so far ahead of the game on savngs that even if something unforseen were to go wrong with the vehicle, you are still under the book value after fixing it!

Dealer warrantees aren't worth the paper the are written on most of the time! They are more often a gimmick used by dealers to ensure that they win the contract to overcharge you for servicing their vehicle after the sale for the length of the warrantee.

Thus they have sold you again... after the purchase!...

I'm not implying that this was the case with you at all...

It's just an observation...

I'm glad to see you got a good deal Bloo!

Don... ...I'm still in the market. I am still looking for a Toyota Tacoma/Tundra Automatic V6/V8 4x4. KLMulder has helped me considerably with my search and I felt he needed a little recognition for going out of his way. Thanks again, KL...

Thats a great point Bliz ...but in the wrong direction. Who wants to buy a car that could possibly need to be fixed?? I know that no one can guarantee a vehicle with no problems but,... Personally, I just think the odds are in my favor with an authorized dealer. Unless, of course...the deal was so sweet...I couldnt' resist.

...your a DJ, fisherman, master of ceremonies... and a car salesman??...jack of all trades eh?...

I hear you Gilly!

I never try to sell cars that need to be fixed.

It's bad for business!...

But if you really think about it, the worse case scenario in the realm of the unforseen is possible in any circumstance, even with a new car.

The only difference is, that the book value drops off when a car leaves the lot...

whereas if you buy at wholesale, you have gained value when the vehicle leaves the lot.

Why?... you've bought the car way under the ever decreasing book value at the time of purchase.

This can be a good buffer toward the worse case scenario...
at a cheaper cost overall...

I've seen warrantee costs that far exceed the cost of repairs during the length of it's contract.

As for jack of all?... I guess I have varied interests!

I may not know everything... but I know a little about alot of things...

I am also looking for a great deal on the Tundra!

Nice choice Bloo!

I'll let you know what I see out there!

Quite often, there is a transferable warrantee involved based on the mileage...

KMulder is selling a great product!...

Hi All

Thus far I have refrained from replying to this thread But now I must.
Is buying a vehicle from a wholesale dealer a viable option? Yes it is. Can you buy a car from a wholesale dealer for less money than a dealership that offers new and pre-owned vehicles? Yes. Will most wholesale dealers stand behind their cars past the buyers guide warranty ( Max of 2 mo or 3000 mi in RI ) ? No. Are all New/preowned dealers reputable? No

These questions having been asked, You need to do you home work when purchasing a new or pre-owned vehicle from any source.

1) Know your budget for your vehicle. Do you want to buy it outright or finance it? If you want to buy it that's easy, I have 15000 to spend on everything what can I afford to buy. I can afford to spend 300 per month, you can work the payment backwards to find out a total amount that you can purchase a vehicle for. Rember that financing salestax, interest rate and length of term MUST BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION.

2) Ask questions Ask Questions Ask Questions. You can never ask to many questions. The only bad question is one that you don't ask. This is also a way of determining if the person you are dealing with is really trying to help you or if they are just out to rake you over to coals. How does the sales person react when you ask questions? If they don't know the answer do they find out for you or do they try to change the subject or worse yet BULL#%*@ you?

3) Will they put it in writing? You have NO RECOURSE ON A HAND SHAKE OR VERBAL DEAL! There are a lot of people in this world in every walk of life who will promise you the moon to get your hard earned $$$ only to hand you a pic of it and take off. I seem to remember a story about a bridge for sale in New York, I wonder if I can still get in on that?

The best way to find out about how a business is run is by its customers especially the people who have had problems. How were they treated? Was it resolved in the best possible fashion and in a quick orderly manner or was it dragged out and difficult. You will always be able to find people that are very happy and people that feel they were mistreated, lets face it there are a lot of ignorant people out there who are so clueless that they are happy about being shafted and there are others who if you gave it away they still got rippedoff so get a good consensus.

Now that being said, I moved my family 1550 mi to come and work for this dealership. Why would I move from Eskridge KS to Portsmouth RI? Because of the reputation of Toyota of Newport. We have won the Presidents award every year for the last 9 years, have been ranked #4 in the country for customer retention ( out of some 1500 toyota dealers ) and provide innumerable benefits and support to local charities and events.

Toyota Certified used vehicles
Toyota is the #1 selling certified used vehicle in America and its not hard to figure out why. With a Toyota Certified used vehicle you know it has been reconditioned to meet Toyota'sexacting standards by factory trained Toyota technicians and has passed a rigorous inspection process. To be a Certified Toyota a vehicle must pass a comprehensive set of qualifications including completion of a vehicle history report and a 160 point quality assurance inspection. Also all toyota certified used vehicles are backed by a 6 year 100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty and roadside assistance plan from the original date of first use. And Certified Toyotas come with new car financing rates.

Will a wholesale dealer offer any of these things it is possible but unlikely. If you have a flat tire will they send someone out to change it for you 24/7/365 and pay the bill? Do they pull the heads to make sure there is no sludge build up and that the engine was properly serviced? Will they repair or replace the transmission if it goes bad a year after you buy it?

At Toyota of Newport we do all these things and provide our customers with FREE pick up and delivery and FREE loaner cars when ever they need service for any reason within a 75 mile radius of the dealership. ( by the way they are new cars we use in our loaner fleet )

To Bliz this is not posted as a cut to you or to put you and your business down in any way. We both serve the need of our customers the best we can. I would enjoy getting to gether with you and doing some fishing anytime just let me know and if I can I will.

Thanks KL Mulder

Sounds like a plan to me!

I'd love to Fish with you sometime!

I personally love Toyota's!... my wife drives the Avalon and is very happy with her car!

I'm looking around myself for the Tundra...

And as you so eloquently stated in your e-mail, there are advantages to be had in either method of acquisition when purchasing a vehicle. The BIG difference as you had stated was in the methods of finance for a vehicle.

If you don't have the $ available to purchase outright, then a dealership is the way to go for you. Not to mention, dealers can offer some fringe benefits that you won't get on purchasing via wholesale...

It's really a matter of preference!
