midlife crisis trip
so lately i've been thinking it's time for a midlife crisis. i'm not into hot rods or bikes anymore and i'm pretty sure my wife would frown upon me getting a girlfriend half my age - so i think i'm gonna do a little fishing trip instead. i've got a few ideas. first option is the mother ship style trip - either in the indian ocean or off the great barrier reef. thinking of GTs and everything else that prowls the reef and edge. another way to go would be a long range party boat tuna trip out of san diego. 10 day trip looking for 200-300# yellowfin tuna. the other option would be a trip down to panama/costa rica looking for roosters, sailfish, and yft. alaska would be cool but i think that is going to be a family trip. or maybe i should just get hair implants

Fished Cabo in '01 for sail fish....was the best trip to date. (even though the wife caught more than me). The restaurant at the marina took our catch and we made a reservation for that evening and we went back and it was prepared several different ways. Just had to pay for the fixings and booze. Real nice place to go/fish. Only draw back is the Pacific is rough.

How much time do you have? If you have a lot of time, go for Great Barrier Reef, who knows, maybe you could get a grander ... nothing wrong with that.
Panama is always a great trip ... or you could go further south and try the Galapagos for marlin, the fishing there is supposed to be real good ...

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

The Colorado river in Costa Rica is a great trip too. I happened to be there several years a go on a business trip. I had enough time to book a fishing excursion, so I went and did it. I wanted to Tarpon fish but they were out of season when I was there. We fished for Peacock Bass and I had a great time with some very big fish. I happened to get a good guide with a decent boat. Lots of fish then in the evening sitting in the open air patio eating fresh fish beside the pool with Parrots in the trees all around you. Good drinks and lots of stories well into the night. Good time.

Some of these trips are crazy $$$. Check 360tuna out and see where Sami goes or Kilsong for some exotic locales and ideas.

Don't rule out Hawaii. Great fishing off the Kona/Kohala coast of the big island and lots of other things to do as well.

pacific coast of central america is tempting but all the other options would be full time on the water which is what i think i want

Have you seen that Spanish Fly episode? Looks unreal. I actually ran into Jose Wejebe in the Keys at the Square Grouper and that's all he was talking about...

I did CR a year or so ago and it was amazing. The offshore stuff is incredible but IMO the inshore fishing is so fantastic I would do that every day if I could!
If I was to go again, I would like to go to Panama, they have a nice resort in the middle of the jungle and outstanding fishing. (fishing the hannibal reef)
But given your selection...I would do the seychelles on a mother-ship. There was a TV show Spanish Fly did one there...that looked truly amazing. It would cost a lot but the fishing there in the remote islands is insane. You should look up that show...I think it is a two part series. Without question the coolest looking fish species on the planet!
Another possibility (and on my list) is Indonesia or Samoa. I have heard first hand reports of incredible fishing there as well.
If you need a tackle-boy to carry your bags let me know!
