I thought it was impossible for those conversions to be 100% accurate ?
Plus most of the old timers on fhe water use loran#'s

Most of the old timers are use to "running lines" along the loran charts. You can still get charts with the lines on them. Lot of guys here still chit chat on the radio about running the ### line.
Are the loran signals even being broad-casted anymore? I think that stopped.
I would avoid that technology (despite what the oldtimes say) and just do a loran chart look-up instead of installing out of date technology.
I remember when my dad had a radio direction finder on the boat, the thing was as large as desktop computer case and had a big rotating top to it, it required lots of space, big charts, pencils straight edges, and practice to get a ballpark of where you are via triangulation.

They stopped broadcasting LORAN signals two year ago. Now my 800X is a large paperweight.

Convert, run to the numbers, should be within close proximity.
Furthest off in tests we did was around 1/4 mile, which isn't bad if you know what you're looking for in the first place.

Put it in eBay trust me there's boneheads who will buy used loran units without even checking if there still broadcasting.
