So Co RI Guys: Tuna caught from the beach?

I'm reading on another forum a 100 lb bluefin was caught from the beach in Charlestown RI earlier in the week.

Any more info?

Dont know about one being actually caught, but the reports of dragger with 200LB tuna in the nets off of beavertail are pretty eye opening. Wish I didnt winterize the boat.

I heard it was a can of tuna.

I have no idea, but it has been pleasant enough to try. That definitely increases the likelihood.

One of the pair trawlers was offloading at Fish Island (at Norpel) today, no tuners to be seen.

Not that I would entirely discount the tuna possibility thanks to the weather and the way the herring have stuck around, but I wouldn't doubt these guys are responsible for some of the "tuna" sightings.

You mentioned that in the pair thread, doors were open the other day and they were pumping into that building.

New Discovery TV Show: Herring Wars

In recent weeks, Ballou said, his department has received several complaints from local fishermen alleging the out-of-state trawlers are wreaking havoc on their fixed gear.

“Some of them just don’t care,” said Roule.

On Jan. 11, Roule, towing off the town beach in Narragansett, got tangled with a pair of large out-of-state vessels.

“They came up behind me. I’d done a tow that I had been making for three weeks, straight off the Pier. They had set to the south and then they turned behind me,” said Roule.

“They caught me and almost broke the boat in half. They didn’t know they had me.”

Roule estimated he lost $10,000 a day for a week while he was unable to fish, in addition to the $8,000 he forked over to repair his net.

Roule documented the incident with the U.S. Coast Guard, but said the other trawler refused to acknowledge the mistake.

“That stuff happens. Difference is I’ve written checks to pay for that stuff,” said Roule. “That was a big hit.”

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

Just read today in the east bay life section of the shorelines paper that there have been school bluefin in the narraganset bay feeding on herring as well as pogies in the providence river and decent striper bite there as well.
