Flouro Leader

What brand is everyone using? I was doing some internet scanning and noticed Seaguar has a premier and regular type. Anyone try the premier? Claims to be more abrasion resistant.

i am going back to big game mano, i found no gain with the floro. i am going to use up the seguar i have and that is it. for my jigging stick i am using a Cajun leader its red and that is the first color to disappear after 15 ft.

I've always used regular Seaguar, I say if it aint broke dont fix it.

I'm with skippy...I've seen no advantage in using floro.I'm using Ande Backcountry for making leaders.

I've used both a few years back (perhaps something new is out there) and didn't see any difference. I think the premium stuff was a bit stronger for any given diameter so you'd get 55lb test instead of 50lb test when it first came out, but for leader material and abrasion resistance it is more about diameter than anything else and since the lines were the same diameter the extra 5lbs of strength made little difference.

Agree... I use Jinkai 60# when throwing smaller stuff and in calmer water or just need the extra casting distance. When I am in big surf throwing big plugs I run a longer leader and bump up to a heavier leader.

Jinkai is not very expensive and even with the heavier line it still ties easily..

Of course this is what I use for where I fish....and there is no worse feeling then having a good fish on and feeling it rubbing in the boulders and grinding that big metal lip plug into the rocks...

I used the reg seagur 40# as well.

But the vets will tell you any minute now; save some money and just get mono... doesnt make that much a difference i guess. And usually when you break off a leader its becuase there was already a knick in it from before, just be vigilant

For tuna, everyone that I know has switched over to Seagar premier from seagar regular.

$70 for 25 yards hurts. I just bought some. Tuna's a whole different ballgame. You seem to catch more fish exponentially by how much money you spend.

For bass, I've actually found that fluoro on my wire jigs is a detriment. Straight wire to jig works better.

I've been using 40lb Ande mono for years and whether it's rocky Rhody coast or the canal, I have yet to have a leader break.

switched to berkely floro from seagar a few years back. easier to tie knots with.
last fall in the clear surf, if you had on regular mono, or even worse, wire, you were not catching anything but blues. the water for those 2 weeks was crystal clear.

I have 20 and 30 pound Seaguar, but once it's gone I'm switching my lower pound tests to Ande leader material. I already use it for 40 and 50 pound leaders and haven't had any issues to date.

Thanks for all the feedback. On the boat I use Ande 60 mono, I used to fish the sandy beaches more and used Ande 30 mono or Segaur 30. Last few years have come down with a bad case of the "ditch-itis" and tried both Ande 40 mono and Seagaur 40. I dont really believe it makes a difference there on clarity issues, but found the flouro was more abrasion resistant. I do pre tie all my leaders and pay attention to knots and really setting them correctly while at home as the flouro can be a little tricky to cinch down correctly 100%of the time.

To Typhoon who runs wire straight - I am sure it works really well but for me the forgiveness / shock absorbsion / handling of the mono it makes it safer easier to land fish plus I think a few wraps around the spool keeps the springiness down. FYI I jig the rod so no glove like the jiggers use...

Call me crazy but i tried Flouro when it first came out. Spent a small fortune on the stuff and never noticed any difference in my hook up or landing ratio.

For the record I use nothing but Ande Clear in 50# for leaders and I never ever loose a fish because of line or knot failure.

I have used Seaguar 50# fluro and Ande 50# mono. From my experience, the Ande 50# mono performs just as well as the Seaguar 50# fluro. I have landed blue fish on the Ande. I needed to replace the leader, but it held up!

mono. always used big game, but i'm trying the jinkai this year on tom's recommendation. happy with how well it knots, even at 60#, much better than big game.

Me too. 50lb for plug or full moon. 80lb for bait.

Joe fishes Floro right next to me and we are usually about even (unless he is plugging while I am throwing candy bar's in May....)

I've been using Pink Ande 60 for yrs and it works great but several yrd back I started tryin the Flouro with fly fishing and found it made a diff. So I tried the Seagar 50 for stripers. Worked great but the hidden benefit is for some reason I stopped gettin bit off using plugs for blues. now I use it all the time when teethy ctitters are around and hardly ever get bitten off plus I seem to get as many stripers coming up from under the blues as blues while others seem to be getting mostly blues plus when the bass an blues are fussy I've seen days where the flouro made a difference from the pink ande leaders.I'll keep using them both as so far I've had enough benefits from both the flouro and ande to justify the way I use it.The one very important thing with both is keep track of knicks in the leaders and use high quality connectors as they do make a difference.

Ande 40-60 for plug leaders, really happy with this

Seaguar is a good flouro, but you want real bang for your buck try "TripleFish" now sold as "TrickFish" not a premium as seaguar but only like $14 for 50yds

Orvis Mirage, 52#. I've been using it for a few years and have been happy with it.
Good knot strength and abrasion resistance.
I had problems with the original Seagar but have not tried the premium.

I have been using Yo-Zuri flouro for a while and like it. On one of my last outtings I picked up the TrickFish flouro, it's ties nice and priced well. I might switch. I am no salted vet and am still tryin to figure out if the flouro is worth it as well. I have caught fish with no leader at all then other times flouro was key. I will be putting it to the test next season as I will be carrying a pre-tied mono leader for when I get into fish to compare. One thing I did notice is when fishing backbay areas with smaller plugs I found diameter matters. While fishing a 4" bomber w/ 50lb leader no fish, switching to a 20 or 25lb leader gave me multiple fish. I feel action gets messed up with heavier line on small plugs.
