Thumbs up Rivers End Tackle - Worth the Trip

As always, great day.
Seminar talks by Tony Stetzko and John Skinner, well worth the drive.
Steve McKenna was stringin' slug-gos. Looks like he can do them in his sleep. Sales reps from Commando Surf Bags (Tom was there), Super Strike (Don was there), Lunker City, Stetzko Lures.
As always, lunch was on Pat (biggest sausages around, premium hot dogs, beans, macaroni salad, chili, pulled pork, full roasted pig, Ben & Jerrys party tent, beverages, etc.
There were beachmasters (needles, dannies, eelys) at show prices. Other show specials throughout the store.

The turn out seemed a little lighter than in the recent past, probably due to competing shows.

Pat Abate and the Rivers End staff do a wonderful job. For me it's more like my annual "surfcaster family reunion." Many of the people that have been influential to my surfcasting life are always there. It was really good to speak with Stetzko face to face again - hadn't done that in quite a while. I've never met a surfcaster who was more "in touch" with how all other life forms interrelate with striped bass than Tony. Whenever you have a conversation with Stetzko you come away with golden nuggets of information.

Was also nice to re-connect with Don and Steve Musso and talk all things needlefish - Donny looks great. Of course Abate and Mckenna are longtime friends but they were so busy I couldn't gab with them very long. Was able to take a photo of George Thackery's (may he rest in peace) original "Silent Sand Eel" needlefish whose tail was wrapped with solder. Pat had it hanging on the wall.

The CT Surfcasters teamwork with the food and drink is ALWAYS exemplary - what a top notch organization! Members of that club should be proud. My first time meeting John Skinner - enjoyed his presentation - learned some new techniques both in fishing AND public speaking - thanks John. The Commando Products were very impressive and Tom is quite an ambassador for the sport. Came home feeling very content.

Surf Day for the club, C.S.A. is an annual event we graciously attend. Pat's a great club advocate and his knowledge of surf fishing has helped many a member over the years. We all enjoyed the surf fishing camaraderie with the Who's Who of N.E. surf fishing.Billy D, Pres. CSA

If you fish from the shore, this shop is excellent because these guys are into what your into. Surf Day is a great way to get the blood flowing for the new season, as if we needed any motivation at this stage.

During the height of activity on Saturday somebody asked me who "Pat" was and I pointed to the smiling guy with a mop in his hand. Yup, that's the owner of this wonderful shop, humble as always. It's an excellent crew and a great store. I swear my heart rate jumps about 50 points when I pull into the parking lot.

If you've never been to a Surf Day at River's End you really should clear the decks and make down there. You'll be glad you did.

It's always darkest just before it goes pitch black.
