Yeah they did.... Gaudeau, Kreider and goalie Milner have been at the top of their game. Where the heck is Ferris State??? Never heard of it, and they are in the national championship game.....

Really good championship game that wasn't decided until the last minutes. Ferris State was a more than worthy opponent

The goal by the freshman was nothing short of spectacular. He averaged a point per game this season.

Great game. If we lived in Minnesota or Michigan, it would be a huge deal for the local colleges. It's too bad around here that people just don't get into college sports, especially hockey because we have some really good programs in NE.

I'm sure that people out west have never heard of some of the traditional northeast hockey powers, like Clarkson, Merrimack, St. Lawrence, RPI, etc.

I would actually argue that college hockey is the biggest college sport in this area. BC and BU have powerhouse programs that draw well all season. UMass, UNH, Maine, etc all draw well too, oh and you can't forget VT. I've been to some BU games and the atmosphere is very cool.

I agree that most sports fans this way don;t get into College Sports like the rest of the Country.

I wouldn't exactly call Clarkson, Merrimack, St. Lawrence & RPI powers...........but those Mid West/Western fans know there stuff. I went to 5 Frozen Fours in a row and talked with a lot of those fans, they know there stuff just as good if not better than the North East College Hockey fans.

It's bigger than other sports in this area, but that's because the other sports aren't popular at all. Out in the midwest, they talk about college hockey on sports radio, and not just the playoffs or Frozen Four. I haven't heard anything about BC's win on WEEI today. Boston is really only a pro sports town. The colleges draw ok, but it's pretty much all students and alumni. I've gone to some BU games because both my parents are alumns, and it is fun but I don't think they were ever close to selling out.

Its different all over. In some areas of Penn. they get 10K fans for a high school wrestling match.

I can remember just in the 70's when the RedSox, bruins and Celtics and Pats had seats available right up to game time and in most cases , half empty , especially fenway on a weekday pre 75.

You need to look at percentage of capacity to get a real idea of how the attendence is. BC sold 78% of their tickets and BU sold 77% of their tickets. That's not how many people attended the game, just tickets sold. Those numbers aren't bad, but many of the midwest schools sell over 90% of the tickets. Granted, a lot of this has to do with there being a lot more to do around a city like Boston, but you still don't see or hear much talk about the local college hockey around here.

Yea i totally agree with you fishbones. The numbers for BU and BC are respectable though. Also, there's way more to do around here than just going to sporting events. I worked in KS and no offense to people who live out there but there is not much going on culture wise so getting behind your college teams becomes a cultural thing to do. This is totally a pro sports town and region and unless you have a tie to the college they don't pick up many casual fans. I love college sports and always will.

It's a shame that college hockey doesn't draw a bigger crowd in this area. It's a chance to see future pros for cheap money in a fun environment. I have a friend who's a professor at Stonehill College and he said he takes his kids to some of their games. His kids love it even though it's Division 3 and in a small local rink.

I played hockey @ Stonehill in the late 90's. It was a lot of fun and good competitive hockey, unfortunately, more people attended my High School hockey games than my College hockey games at Stonehill. Some of the teams we played against back then are now Division 1 (Bentley, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, AIC). I don’t think there are any Division 2 schools anymore for hockey, just D1 & D3.

Most of the world has never heard of RPI. And they haven't been a real threat since the late 80s around the time they won it all.
