Lot of screwed up priorities
I count my blessings in the midst of so much devastation, loss, and suffering in the areas that Sandy hit hard. What happened up here doesn't even deserve mention with what I see in NY, NJ, and CT.
But what really gets me pissed is seeing the food stores, generators, and lights being held aside for the now cancelled NY Marathon. Food and water not being made available to our citizens who need them! And hotels jacking up prices. Some people who lost homes or power have had to go to these hotels for shelter, if they could afford or find a room. And now they are being evicted to make room for Marathon reservations????? What were the organizers and the mayor thinking? Yes, they have finally cancelled, but it should have been done by Tuesday....
I am just in awe of the destruction and losses suffered this week. And disappointed in our system for not getting relief to those that are in need on a more timely basis.... Lessons from Katrina were not well learned I guess.

Forgot to mention, the Alabama Power crews that were sent packing for home by local unions as they didn't meet the union agenda...... What???? I realize how those states are run, but those in control allow, or use this card in these times? Like I said, screwed up priorities...

Looks like the report about this was false. They weren't turned away and there are hundreds of nonunion utility workers from outside states working there.

Just shows you how precarious things are when everything is normal, and one storm comes along and everything gets turned upside down. Maybe what we have isn't as solid as we would like to think. Zeno my thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone else from New York and Jersey who took it on the chin.

...the jacking up of hotel prices should be a crime...that's analogous to increasing the price of vaccines in the face of an epidemic...so much for self regulation...the price increases and hotels that raised them should be vilified

I don't know how the law is written in ct, but gov. Malloy stated earlier in the week that anyone found price gouging in ct would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Hopefully ny and nj have laws on gouging and at least make examples of some of the scum.

I don't see how you could say it doesn't deserve to be mentioned that's wrong hopefully you rephrase that part of your comment.I drove the whole coastline walked the beaches and seen the damage first hand. There a hundreds of people that don't have homes anymore here in RI.

My point was that any local effects, ie. my home, my block, my town, despite being oceanfront community was minimal in comparison.

I think the CT law was put in after 9/11 and it is still in force for when needed. Fines and jail time for those.

Nothing that could be seen from 95 through western CT looked like gouging. Although the lines just over the NY/CT border were absolutely insane. Police were checking ID's on the last 2 exits in NY before CT.
Lots of people driving like complete idiots but thats nothing new. Someone needs to put up a sign that reminds them if they'd just slow back down they'd save some gas while looking for gas.
